I saw something like that happen once in my life, but it was with a snow leopard. I was at the Bronx Zoo and some ass hat was yelling at the leopard getting it all worked up and it was pacing back and forth in its cage. He was screaming at it non-stop. Finally, the leopard had enough, it stopped, backed its ass up to the bars and pissed right in the guys face. It was the single greatest moment of immediate karma that I ever experienced.
Based on that, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy did something to deserve getting shit thrown at him by the elephant.
