THE ORIGIN OF THE SALUTE
Hello all.
I stumbled on something recently and thought I would share.
Who's ever wondered where "The Salute" originated from? All rite then... Let's take a ride through the post to know. I am not 100% sure about the truthfulness but the an extent, I believe it's correct
Here we go then.......
In Roman times, when assassination and murder were rife, it was a custom to greet someone by holding up an empty hand - to show that you were not carrying a weapon
Medieval knights would similarly show an empty hand as an indication that they meant no harm
The removal of a helmet or other head gear indoors was a sign of respect and obviously this has been carried on through the centuries, til now
That's it friends.
