Star gooseberry or Ma-Yom (in Thai), one of my favorite fruits
If you are Asian people, you would know this tree well. Star gooseberry or we call it as “Ma-Yom” in Thai. It is a tree that is popular among Thai people because it has a good meaning.
We believe if we plant Ma-Yom in front of our house, people will admire us! Besides, we believe that Ma-Yom can prevent evil from our houses.
If you are my old friends, you may learn that its taste is very sour…. I like to cook it with sugar, fish sauce and chilies. Yummy!
Ma-yom contains a lot of vitamin C that can prevent our body from cold.

This Ma-Yom tree is in front of my neighbor’s house. It’s not tall, but there are a lot of Ma-yom at its branches. Really amazing!
Just looking at these, I feel very hungry now! Ha ha! ;D

I have never seen any fruits like this in our stores. Fresh or even in a can. They look really good - but I don't think I have ever met a fruit that I did not like! ; ) You have so many different fruits around you - that's fantastic! And it looks like this tree sure has a lot to harvest! Do they get ripe all at once, or over a long period of time?
Thanks so much for your comment and stopping by. I think this fruit can be planted only in Asia and it's an ordinary fruit which is not exported outside the country, that's why you haven't seen this before.
Yes, there are a lot of fruits each tree..... They get ripe over a long period throughout the year.... I had one tree in my house in Phatthalung, in the South of Thailand, and I like to eat the fruits every day! ;)

I really like learning about what plants people use and like, in different places around the world. It would be so cool to have a fruit that is around all the time! And one that is so local -- appreciated by everyone around, but only available in that area. Those are the kind of differences that make for an interesting and special world! :D

At first, I think this fruit can be planted in all Asian countries, I'm much surprised to know from you that you don't have this fruit in the Philippines. In the meantime, I'm glad to know that you like sour fruits, like me..... ;))
They do look very good, but if you say sour, I might need coconut milk or something else, like the fish and sugar. Hot chilies? How big are these fruits? I've eaten regular gooseberries, but they were small. You may have said in a previous post, but my memory is not too stupendous.
So nice to have them right outside. I hope you get to pick and eat many Ma-Yom, and you have a nice day today as well.
