Steemit Proves: Friendship Is More Important Than Money! And there IS Intelligent Life Out There!!!

My second month on Steemit isn't over yet but I can't help the feeling it is time again for analyzing where I am standing right now compared to my beginnings.

In December Bitcoin reached its highest levels ever (I have a tendency of being late). I wasn't even interested in cryptocurrencies before I came here. I didn't know anything about it. To me it was something that is only interesting for nerds and speculators.
How do I look at this now?

A term you can't ignore here: the blockchain

I still don't exactly know, how this works technically, but I have some kind of a vague picture of it in my head. I understand what decentralization means. I love the idea of it. I am a very political person. I love freedom. I love it when more people are sharing power and responsibilities than before. Because to me that means the system provides more security for everybody. So I had no other choice than falling in love with Steemit!

What about the money?

That's a point where I learned much about myself here. At first I was overwhelmed from getting upvotes and comments on my posts. Some of them were successful. I thought "and this will even be getting better". Then there were posts not so successful. And I had a short period where I was like the typical disappointed minnow: "Why do worse posts than mine get more upvotes and earn more? That's not fair! It is too hard for newbies! Whales are just voting up each other! They have bots, they aren't really interested in good content..."

Really?

Maybe there are some people around here who earn more than their content is worth. (Not pointing at anyone). But there are also well earning users who really care about Steemit and the blockchain. Who have high ideals and build brilliant apps or are looking for investors. Who are really bringing the whole thing forward. So it's like everywhere: you have good people, you have bad people. Just make sure you read and upvote the good ones!

What about the community?

Of corse there is another aspect when it comes to making money here:

Friendship!

Some folks around here have a strange understanding of that: "Can we be friends? You upvote me, I upvote you." To some of you it may seem, that this is what whales are doing. But often that's not the case. Yes there are whales connected to another. But that's not a strange thing. They are here for a while, they are friends. A whale isn't something you need to catch. When you see it that way, you are making them some sort of a money bag. But they are just people. You can try to befriend them, but if I was a whale I would be very careful with that. Because maybe people are not interested in you as a person or in your content but in the oppurtunity of making money with you.

So am I still disappointed by now?

Absolutely not. I realized that when you are starting here, Steemit is way more about community than about making money. I already found some people who I really like. I visit their accounts regularly and see what's new. I like their content and I upvote and comment them. And they upvote and comment me. But we don't earn much with that yet. Because most of them are newbies just like me. And that's okay. Maybe we will earn more money in the future, when we have grown here. Maybe we will be dolphins who vote for another. And maybe newbies and minnows will criticize us for being friends and earning money with that? Who knows.

At the moment I am just enjoying to read high quality content from very intelligent persons around here. I enjoy chatting with them. And the most important thing: I can learn so many new things from them and have fun! So how important is making money compared to that?

So let's just be friends and keep on Steemin'! :-)

Thank you again for this great article. It's always wonderful to refresh the feed and see a new @brainnipper post.
Your first steps described very well how I felt when I started here. "Bitcoin? Yeah, I heard about that. How that works? No clue...".
I simply liked the idea when I heard about steemit. The platform where creators and curators are being rewarded for their content. Sounded too good to be true but hey, why not give a try?
I already started a blog years ago but quit because of a lack of interest. And my time was too valuable for also getting nothing back.
Don't get me wrong I didn't want to become rich but just like the steemit slogan says "my word was worth something". What ever that amount would be.
In fact the whole crypto and blockchain "thing" was a bit scary to me at the beginning because I didn't know anything about it. And that's why it's also hard for me to motivate friends to join the community. When they start asking details and I explain some of them they are like "Oh dear, this sounds very complicated. That's nothing for me".
I can understand the feeling being frustrated when a very high quality post gets a few cents and a trash post a 100$ upvote but even if I earn a few dollars I think about it this way.
On one side I'm still new here. A month is nothing. And on the other side if I would have started a blog like I did and a YouTube channel guess how much I would have earned there? Right, nothing.
The community itself, the people I'm talking to every day have become the most valuable thing for me and I'm so happy I joined them.

"Thank you again for this great article. It's always wonderful to refresh the feed and see a new @brainnipper post."... My face is getting a bit red right now! ^^
Somehow this "friendship/money thing" with Steemit is hard to grab. But my conclusion is, it is difficult here to earn something without making friends. So in some way it is mainly about community. When I see stupid posts earning lots of money, I think: okay there are also communities inside of the community and there are some I don't want to belong to. ^^

Awe how cute^^ Yes that is definitely correct that even trash content needs its community. I see here a lot of spammers and people plagiarizing stuff. And that is something you will definitely make no friends with and also won't earn money with.
In fact the chances are even higher being reported / flagged and then even the two cents self upvote are gone.

I guess we have to build our own little eco-system inside of this bigger eco-system. (I love this term, thanks @surfermarly!^^) Of corse we will build a good one! :-)

The relationships build the real value in this eco-system. It's always been like that. Also being a social network that's actually how it should be like. Lone wolfs and negative people who only focus on their own outcome won't succeed in the long run. I can't remember that there has ever been an award given to the most nasty troll in the whole history of the internet :-D

Viva community!

Hihihiii... now that was a clear announcement!^^

Thank you for stopping by my new account @i-am-legion and leaving a thoughtful comment. I was compelled to come here and read your post. You are absolutely right. The way to be successful here on steemit is to engage with the community. Thats the only way for people to get to know you. One of the secrets in steemit is to get involved in the many discord chat channels. One of my favorite is @steemusa. They are a great group of people who really love steemit and give back to the platform. I would like to invite you or anyone else reading your post to #steemusa. You can enter the chat by using this link https://discord.gg/efq4spQ. Money is not evil and there does not need to be a choice between money and friendship. There can and should be both at the same time.

Okay I am kind of confused by now!!! XD That is the best reaction I had to one of my comments so far on Steemit! So I guess we both are into something good! I appreciate your invitation. I am still a bit insecured when it comes to chatting. But maybe now the time has come to give it a try! :-)

When doors open we either step through or remain standing out in the cold. Now is probably the best time to give it a try.

Okay. Standing in the cold outside is maybe not a goal for the future.^^

Okay I joined. I will look it up tomorrow? And then I am in? Do I get this right? Okay. Looking forward to new things to come! :-)

Learn or learn a lot from your article
