I really love today's prompt because it reminded me of a crazy event. Ok, this is no fiction. This is my story. Let's dive in.
In Nigeria, to enter the university, you write two examinations JAMB(JOINT ADMISSIONs MATRICULATION BOARD) and POST-UTME(UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATIONS). These two exams are monstrous. It's once in a year,so once you fail it, you wait till the next year. Some students take 4 to 5 years rewriting this exam just to enter the University. Fortunately and with a whole lot of hard work, I made it on the first attempt. I was so excited. Mum called the distant uncles and aunties to congratulate me.
I was settling in the University, first semester was moving fast, I was trying to catch up with my new life and classes then the student portal decided to play me. I was a neophyte, I didn't know much about the school system, if not I would have known.
So on this fateful day, I logged into my portal, I wanted to check a test result. I typed in my password and boldy written in capital letters on my page was " SORRY YOU ARE NO LONGER A STUDENT"
OK, you guessed right. I went crazy,I was discombobulated, the world was spinning, I recounted all I did for the past week, stuttering and hammering on details to see where I broke a rule or something. I was sweating in a well ventilated library. My eyes welled up in tears. I scampered out of the library to call anyone. First, I called my friend who was also a newbie and we were both stuttering on the phone. She didn't know what to do or say.My heart kept racing as I dropped the call. I was crying and wiping my tears so people won't stare. I wanted to know what I did wrong. I couldn't think.
I remembered my school father, he was in his finals. I rushed over to his hostel barging on the roommates with no regard how decent they were. I rushed into his arms and cried out my gut. He held on, giving me time to calm. He sat me down on his bed while the room mates stared, all in shock, eager to know what happened.
I finally explained, finishing my story with the fact that I didn't break any rules and started crying again. Suddenly the whole room was in an uproar of laughter. Even my school father was smiling.
"The portal does that sometimes, especially when it's undergoing some maintainance routine" my school father said rubbing my back.
"I am sure if you should check again, it should be gone." He added.
Immediately, I logged into my page to confirm and alas, it was gone...
Lol.. You don't want to hear the rest of my reaction😭😀😁
