5 Minute Freewrite - Prompt: I floss my tears
Ava popped the small puff of cloud-like sugar into her mouth and all but squealed with delight. Never before in her 8 years of life had she ever tasted such a sweet and delicious treat.
"How did you make this?" she asked, looking down at the Faerie near her hand. She found the little creature fascinating, but all the same she avoided thanking it for the treat. Her Da had told her that it could be dangerous to thank a Faerie.
The Faerie, busying itself with tidying its new garden home, stopped and looked at her. Its tiny eyes shined like sapphires, but the inhman appearance made it difficult to tell what it was thinking.
"I flossed my tears," it answered matter-of-factly, fluffing some moss on one of the rocks it had brought.
"You flossed your tears?"
The fairy sighed impatiently and stopped her work again. "Yes, flossed! Made floss! Like thread!"
"Forgive me," Ava apologized, not meaning to irritate the tiny creature. "It's just so strange to me. People can't do such things."
"Of course not," the tiny Faerie said proudly, dusting pollen off of one of its flowers. "Only Faerie make it. Faerie floss is a gift. You gave me a home, and I paid my debt."
"Faerie floss," Ava said quietly, trying to imagine how one could turn tears into the sugary treat. And as she sat, she slowly began to notice that the pain in her legs, present since birth, was no longer there.
Note: This one was so much fun! I feel like I could have written for hours about these two characters. "Fairy floss" is another term for cotton candy, so that served as my inspiration for this story. :-)

The prompt was challenging in its originality and you developed it in a pleasurable fairy tale in which the theme suits perfectly. Bravo!
Thank you! :-)
I love where you have gone with this, it is such a beautiful idea, a fairy spinning tears into candy, sadness into joy!
Oh that is a lovely story @saryn. Really well written.

I had no idea that cotton candy is also called Fairy floss. That came in handy!! Love your story!!
Thank you! I hadn't known about fairy floss, either, until I met someone from Australia a few years back. :-)
