in #freewrite5 years ago

The last bit of coal was slowly burning to ash. No wood. No coal. Snow falling softly, menacingly. It would only get colder as the storm continued. And the house would get colder by the hour.
She huddled under the blanket and pulled her dog close to her.
There was little hope of help coming. The endless storm had knocked out electricity. She was alone. She and her one friend, her dog.
As the chill set in her bones her thoughts became vague. They wandered to Santo Domingo. She could feel the warmth of the sun on her face. The colder she got, the more she was able to imagine that time.
By morning the dog and the woman were frozen. They embraced each other and somehow the picture they offered to those who came to rescue (yes, they did come, too late) was one of peace and warmth.
