Rattlesnake on a Cliff - Freewrite Day 487 Entry - Prompt: Cliff-hanger
Hello there. I hope you're having a good day :)
This is my response to the Freewrite prompt, a daily writing exercise that I am really enjoying doing. Thank you @mariannewest for hosting these, and thank you to the people who have delegated SP to me to be able to continue utilizing the Steem platform. I'm very grateful for all the support.
I’ve been challenging myself to make all of the freewrites I do match a particular theme. So far, I have made them about wild animals that tend to get a bad reputation, and am finding it to be a very enjoyable challenge. I’d be curious if anyone else had any other suggestions.

Prompt: “Cliff-hanger”
The sun crested the mountain in the distance, bathing the cliff in its brilliant, warming radiance. As soon as the shafts of light pierced into the crevice where the rattlesnake had made his home, he awoke. Uncoiling, stiff after a cold night, he slithered out to his favorite rock, to hang out on this cliff and warm his body and his blood. As he sag there, basking in the bright orange glow, he heard a cry far above him. Instantly, he threw himself off the rock, diving for his hole, moving as fast as his still-cold body could take him. For he knew that cry. It was the cry of a hungry eagle, seeking its prey. It too, liked to hang out by the cliffs, for they provided easy pickings of his fellow warming snakes. As he made it into his hole, he felt behind him a great rush of warm air, accompanied by a piercing screech. That would be the eagle, missing him by a mere fraction of a second. It would surely be upset by this failure, but he felt no sympathy for this feathered dealer of death. He was safe.
For now
Ah, rattlesnakes. The name brings terror to many, and justifiably so. They are one of the more commonly encountered poisonous snakes in the US. But, as far as snakes go, they're not very aggressive. In fact, they even go out of their way to warn people to leave them alone. As with many animals, they only strike out if they feel afraid for their lives.

For this story, I wanted to capture a bit of the suspense and fear cliff-hangers bring about, while also talking about animals that hang out by cliffs. I hope you enjoyed it.

A nice build up of tension there, you actually find yourself rooting for the rattlesnake's escape.
It's your baby-faced midweek delivery team here with the challenge for today: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-488-5-minute-freewrite-wednesday-prompt-baby

Excellent, that's precisely what I was hoping for :)
Thank you for the prompt. I think I'll write that one tomorrow morning.

I love your theme and keep working it. My only suggestion is shorter paragraphs. People will read more if you break up the text.
Thank you. That is helpful advise, and is much appreciated :) I don't tend to think about that when I'm doing the freewrite, but I shall try to be more conscious of it. Now that I've finally got my new laptop and have it mostly set back up, I can get back into the flow of things, and start looking into the Amazon stiff.

You can always edit the freewrite. Marianne is not a slave driver lol. I'm glad you got an upgrade and I know your future posts will be as good as the last. Feel free to ask me about amazon, but I think you will find it pretty straightforward.
Haha I'll spend some more time with my edits then. Previously it had just been grammar/ spelling stuff.
Thank you for the offer, I'll keep you updated :)
