“Dear Sugar,”

You have been a part of my life since I was little. When I was on my mommy’s arm, she helped me eating Sun baby milk cereal with a baby spoon that I used to tease her a lot by grabbing & playing with it. I was happy to see the milk cereal all over the table, but the best part was the sound of the spoon when it hit the ground. It could be that I was the only one having fun.

Soon at school, I started to get to know soft drinks well and you were in it too. My fave was Sprite and my mommy’s fave was the red Fanta. Not long after, I couldn’t take a lot of them, as I began to realize how sweet they were compared to just simple plain water. That’s when I noticed that some were in love with you and they were addicted to you. My cousin used to take a huge bottle of Coca Cola after his tennis lesson and he was diagnosed with diabetes when he was only in his 20s. My father too, he survived for one decade with the same disease before he passed away.

I didn’t hate you for what you did, Sugar. And I didn’t blame you, you were everywhere and somehow omnipresent. I did prefer though not to look at you in the eyes nor touch your skin when I enjoyed my meal, but I still liked the sweetness in moderation. Life was heavy enough and I couldn’t jeopardize the beauty of it for daily shot of ephemeral pleasure. So, our relationship was breaking up. The feeling was drifting away. So I only needed to say it once, I didn’t really like you in cubes.

@myrockandocean To think that it is insipid or very bitter to drink a cup of tea or coffee without putting sugar. Very nice your writing. Cheers.

Thank you for your support! 🥂

I love your conversation with sugar. I have had my own bittersweet relationship with sugar and bid Pepsi adieu a number of years ago after menopause. A little goes a long way but health is better!

Hi @wandrnrose7! Yes indeed, a little dose of sweetness is good for the soul, let’s keep it moderately balanced. I don’t always take dessert and I do watch my intake of sugary drinks. So far ut works well for me. I want to live longer & see how my son grow older...

That is a very good goal! I want to enjoy retirement!
