Day 734: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: red tongue
This my post for @freewrite Thursday prompt red tongue hosted by @mariannewest
Looking back to my childhood I can remember getting a red tongue after eating a fireball. I could only keep one in my mouth for a short time and would have to take it out because they are true to their name. Fireballs lasted me a long time by taking a few licks at a time until it got small enough to bite into.
Another candy we had was candy cigarettes, they did not give me a red tongue but I remember eating them like I was smoking a cigarette. This memory of candy cigarettes reminds me of the time my sister and I found the little round cardboard tubes in the ladies restroom of our Dads bar, we walked around puffing on them like they were cigarettes until our Dad saw us, he went to yelling at us to put them in the trash and to never mess with them again, she was 6 and I was 8 years old. It was not till much later did I find out what those cardboard tubes were from, it still makes me sick to think about it.
Kids today have a variety of candy that stains their tongues, I do not remember having many things that did this. We had mulberries but they turned everything purple. My Dad sold these red sausages and when they were all sold he would keep the jar and the red liquid in it and add boiled eggs to it. The eggs would turn red but they did not turn your tongue red.
The wind is still blowing so no fishing, it is to blow harder tomorrow and through the weekend, maybe we will get to go Monday but I am not sure about this. My husband went up the creek and made 20 throws with his castnet to catch some mullet for supper. He told me that is all he could do, it wore him out. He did get enough for us and he is giving our neighbor the rest. He goes this coming Wednesday for his heart test, an echocardiogram. He is already complaining about how many times he has had to go to doctors, he has been to 3 appointments and he thinks that is to many. He said the doctor wants to see him every 2 weeks and he is not happy about it.
I have had some oregano and rosemary drying so today I ground it up and put in a spice jar.
I have a coffee grinder that after stripping the stems off I put in the grinder
It works great, grinding the herbs to the right size
I put the rosemary and oregano in the same bottle, I like them both and it saves time.
I loved those sour suckers and yes, my tongue was cherry red and a little prickly when it was gone.
@medusaeffect For being so hot they were an addictive candy, you knew what you were in for but ate them anyway. I could go for one right now if I had one.
Hope it is a positive result on Wednesday
@mariannewest I had it wrong, it is Thursday, and yes I do, too. thank you. Something is going on because he can not do things like he should be able to do. Hopefully, it will be an easy fix.
LMAO... great minds indeed! I did mine on Fireballs too. :D
@inthenow that was a good candy, lasted a long time.
🤗😳..!!
@myjob
I loved fireballs...!!!!
🤔
I wonder if they still make/sell them.
I can also remember a really tart sour candy ....yikes...!!! 😳 it was fun to watch others try an eat it. Strange faces they would make....sooo sour...☺😄.
@annephilbrick I think they still make fireballs but I have not seen any in the stores. But someone must carry them. YES YIKES that memory was gross but it was part of my childhood, Kids do stupid things when they do not know better. I remember a sour candy but I can not place the name of it, it was not sweet tarts I am sure of that. Now that is going to bug me until I think of what it was.
That's a great use of a coffee grinder! Brilliant!
@wwwiebe yes it works very well, I have used it on all kinds of herbs and it grinds them just right for seasonings. And glad to say it was my idea, as I pat myself on the back. lol
I'm so sorry but this made me laugh. I remember wondering what those things were too LOLL

@alliedforces thank you for the love, [[HUGS]]
@snook Thank you, I laugh, too. It is embarrassing but it is one of my memories and one thing you can not change is the past. We had been "playing" with them for several days before he saw us. We were raised by our Dad and I do not think he wanted to try and explain what they were to his two little girls or if we would have understood what he was talking about.
Ohhhhhhh Poor him and that even makes it funnier :D
