#DailyFreeWriteChallenge: Day 110 - California
She wants to move to California. She must've lost her mind. Why would you ever want to do that? The traffic is absolutely unbearable. A single bedroom apartment split between 8 people is going to cost you five grand. It's an unaffordable place to live and that's being generous. a gallon of milk is going to cost you $20. Gas prices are sky high, and you're going to waste it sitting in traffic anyways! The people...they're everywhere! Everywhere you go there's somebody bumping into you or smoking a cigarrette. Oh, and the smog. The air quality in California is terrible. There's a misty haze that hovers over the entire state!
What about the beauty though? The Redwoods. Trees that shoot hundreds of feet out of the ground along the ocean front. The Bay Area. San Fransisco is a bustling city full of vibrant and eccentric personalities. The food. The food is amazing. Such fresh ingredients in every dish.
The quality of person in California is interesting. A lot of talented people travel to California. So I can imagine why you want to move there. It's a best of the best type of place. Only the strong, the hungry, the determined, survive. It isn't a place for the weak.
There are so many different aspects of California. You travel inland and learn that the state is full of desert. Joshua Tree California is one of the most beautiful places in the world. At night, the entire sky is dancing with stars. You can't even see the blackness because the light illuminates the entire sky. There's an energy in Joshua Tree that is palpable. It's uncomparable. It is a scacred land full of energy.
Go to California kid. Live out your dreams. Try to become who you've always wished you could be. Dont let anybody else tell you otherwise.

Hahah. Whenever people tell me they want to move to California, I tell them not to.
Haha true! Have you lived in Cali before?
Since the beggining of (my) time.
It's really great how you shine light on both sides of life in California - it's not just the sunshine state right? There's rain and darkness too.
Thanks for writing and sharing. So nice to connect with other writers :)

Exactly! California is home to many different types of people, environments, and landscapes. It's almost impossible to see them all in one visit. Most people who live in California aren't even able to do it! Thanks for reading =)
I like how cheerful you write about California is :) Waaay different than mine, lol.
There's a lot of beauty in California but without a doubt there's also negativity. The duality of life.
I thought your story worked well. It showed two of the opposing sides of California. It's so big tho, it has many opposing sides which, I guess, does make it interesting.
Thanks for reading! Agreed, there are so many different aspects to the state. I dont think most people truly realize how much land California encompasses! Many different cultures packed within one huge state.
Absolutely. Sacramento and San Francisco are in central California. There's a whole different world up there. I'm in San Diego, friends from England come over and say,"We have an afternoon free, let's pop up to San Francisco." The cowboys in Bakersfield. Hill people in the Sierra foothills, etc... All -in-all an amazing place. Gotta love at least some part of it! :-))
I loved the contrast part between the good and the bad aspects, and the end was perfect, just perfect!
Thank you for sharing this with us 💚
Thank you so much for reading =)
I know you have tried to sell California, but the first paragraph really makes me not want to move there! I think you are right though, it is a place for the hungry, the determined. That kind of place can be quite intimidating; yet rewarding.
That's kind of the point! There'll always be contradicting aspects of any place you travel to (or in anything you do). I think the main objective is to take everything in and try to look at it with a positive state of mind! I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about how the environment can be both intimidating and rewarding. Most great things in life are!
"Only the strong, the hungry, the determined, survive. It isn't a place for the weak."
Ha ha ha, that sentence is a perfect illustration of why I decided against moving to California after high school lol. I knew that I was weak and that I would be eaten alive in that place. Huge opportunities for the strong-willed and those that have a great amount of self-control and who knows when and how to use discretion and reserve. I was not that guy at the time, and may still not be. Too gullible and trusting, too naive and way too idealistic. In that environment, you had to be both trustworthy and ready to get down and dirty if needed. Honest with the honest, and more deceitful and cold than the liars and thieves. I was geared to only play one side of that formula and I was doomed to failure if I yielded to pride and thought that I could also handle the other side and balance things out. 🤔 😉
Great job contrasting the beautiful and the not so...

Wow! Despite the negative stuff you can see in California, at least there are positive things you can find.
Maybe in about 10 years those prices would be true, lol. Nice breaking up of good and not so good. Northern Cali is beautiful and I miss it.
