But What About The Children? (Five Minute Freewrite—Helpless)

As the galaxy's strongest man and the Earth's mightiest defender, Ralph wasn't used to being helpless. However, as he dangled upside down suspended in an unknown energy field in his underwear, that was the only thing that came to his mind. Helpless.

He'd been there for over three days, in a dark room, with no food or water (he could see anyway and didn't really need to eat or drink), and absolutely no contact with the outside world. He knew someone must be looking for him, but apparently their attempts to find him had been slowed down somehow.

It didn't help that he couldn't remember how he got here or why. The last thing he did recall was he had gone to sleep next to his wife after putting the kids to bed. Then, he was here.

He called out his wife's name several times, but to no avail. He'd then ran through the entire list of all the villains he could think of with any technology so advanced at their disposal and one by one, he had ruled them out. So, he was left where started with no idea where he was or why.

It was in this particular moment of extended quandary and query when there was a sliver of light that opened up in his periphery to his right. With his ultra hearing, he heard a small voice say,

"You can come out if you let me go to the party, Daddy!"

Ok, that was sort of terrifying, what kind of kid locks hid Dad up? Very nice twist

Hey, @honeydue.

I liked the twist at the time, so I went for it. I thought it was a less obvious approach. :)

In this case, I guess the kind of kid who locks up their Dad is the superhero kind with the ability to either create technology to negate Dad's formidable powers, or by using their own. Of course, you really have to want to go to a party, or else using them in this way would be totally unwarranted. :)

I'm sure she's going to be in big time trouble. Except if Mom is on it.

hahaha! oh man I did NOT expect that sir! ha! total fake out, I guess the old man's kids were as super as he was, at least one of them. and you just whipped this out in no time flat?

Well, I had the five minutes. It was probably less than a minute for your to read, though.

This time I had the basic idea going in that it would be a superhero of some type, in this case the best there was, someone who had never been helpless in their life and didn't even know what that felt like. From there the story unfolded. I couldn't come up with a good supervillain ending, and since I'm kind of fond of the unexpected twist, the idea of one of his children getting the upper hand occurred to me in the final minute and a half. It was really the only logical way for it to go after I got there. :)

well sir it was a wonderful job of writing. didn't you break your CL record again in the contest?

Good morning, sir.

Well, thanks for the kind words.

We both broke my CL record from the previous week, but yes, I've pushed it up a little farther now. You and I are pretty much the only ones that can/will touch it though. Aside from No Name, there's not really anyone else who's that aware of it, let alone wanting to/going to eclipse it.

good day to you sir Glen on this fine Tuesday! what is your plan this week, try to make tons of new aquaintances or just not worry that much about it?

I don't know if I have a specific plan really. I do have to experiment and change some approaches I think. Writing the CL I do probably needs to come down some, though not enough that people will really notice, but I do need to have time to create more comments. And in doing more comments, I would think I would get to more posts, which means inevitably more people. As it is, there's only so much time in the day.

I'm also not going to keep track as much as I was of things, because that does take up some time, too. Mainly staying as much as I can in front of the computer and grouping things I have to/want to do during the day together is what I'm attempting, I guess.

sir Glen... it should be interesting to see how much you can ignore your stats because you're kind of a numbers guy aren't you, and a stats guy?

Which is great, I need to be more like that instead of just flying clueless.
I'm trying to increase people to talk to but I'm pretty much maxed out unless I stop talking to people I already have as aquaintences!

I can be a numbers guy. I like to see what I've done and what I can improve on, because it tells me what more I need to do. But if I don't need to keep track of them I'd rather not. As you say, we'll see what that does for me. I don't seem to have much success when I'm just winging it.

You can only do what you can do, I guess. I'm not keen on the idea of ignoring established relationships. That would seem to be the opposite of engagement.

Excellent ending. And you have inspired me to refer to my (very few) adversaries as villains, which adds a touch of playfulness to the relationship.
Perhaps today's prompt will inspire something dreamy.

Villains, eh? Well, I guess as long as they are very few, it's okay to call them that. :)

Thank you for the kind words and today's prompt. I liked the way this story ended, too. I say that since I didn't know where I was going with it until I got there. Kind of scary, but I guess that's what these freewrites are all about. Finding a way to end the story. :)
