❤️ My Home Is Where My Fiancé Is Happy ❤️ - Blockchain Coffee “Only What We Could Carry”
Having recently been in a potentially homeless situation my mind immediately falls back to the thoughts I was having then for this prompt...
We were evicted, they sold the house. A common story here in Victoria Canada as housing markets soar. Renters like ourselves are the ones whom take the hardest hit when the buyers come to town. It was a good place for a good amount of time, just enough to start really making a dent on debts. Financial freedom was the goal and hustling was my plan! Then that knock on the door, I knew what it was about as I heard from neighbours people were looking around prior to the house being listed or us notified.
It sold within minutes once on the market is what I heard, I know for certain within 8 hours! Luckily our landlord is very generous and argued to give us 90 days eviction notice even though the buyer wanted the house ASAP! That was the knock on the door, I could tell it hurt her to have to tell us but we smiled and reassured her. Little did we know the current state of rental markets having long stopped looking happy where we were.
We began the hunt quickly becoming dumbfounded by places right next door listed for $1500 when we were paying $950... they were the exact same size rental suites only 685sqft and no yard or parking! After a month of hunting and selective applications to places we could afford with no response we got worried starting to apply to anything! It wasn’t till half way through our second month just 2 weeks before our preplanned summer vacation that we got our first response... a no due to owning a dog 🤦♂️
Heading into that final week before vacation we got plenty of responses... all the scams... already spending 2 months looking and applying to things outside our budget we decided to start applying to every single apartment in town even if they have no vacancy... we did end up with a few obvious unlikely viewing that turned us down so the final day before our vacation I was seriously thinking we would be coming back from vacation to pack only what we could carry in our two cars and moving back in with our parents giving up both our long time jobs and careers.
We got lucky, that afternoon the last day before we left town on vacation(already planned and paid for) I got a call back for a legit rental company stating they have a 1 or 2 bedroom that may suit us! Selecting a 1 bedroom for cost we had the viewing the very next day. Best part is we were told unofficially we could rest assured as long as our details check out it was ours!
Knowing all our references would be golden and having the feeling everything is put to bed we took off on our vacation, disaster avoided. Price was higher then we wanted and in an apartment which sucks but it’s a home... we heard half way through our vacation it was for sure ours and finally our nerves settled and we enjoyed what free time we had left.
Home... a thing we live in yet not often do we think of not having the physical location... I realized at some point along the way ❤️ my home is where ever my fiancé is happy ❤️ which tells me we will move again yet I’m alright with that!

Evicted - facing homelessness - forced to relocate and pay more for less. At one point, "seriously thinking" you'd have to "pack only what we could carry in our two cars and moving back in with our parents giving up both our long time jobs and careers." I kept thinking of Jerry the rescue dog, and yes, he did get a mention (a "no" because No Dogs Allowed!). What a tense story, and I love your insight at the end. "Home" is no longer the established, deeply rooted place so familiar to farm families who've lived four generations in one house. To the nomads! Speaking for everyone at @freewritehouse, we wish you all the best in your new home and hope that you won't ever be #forced out of it.
I hope so also ❤️
Yea Jerry was a big factor in the move but I was trying to keep the emphasis off of him and more on my fiance 😉
I'm here to deliver the Tuesday prompt so please write us another!

A good story! I'm happy you found a place even if it isn't as good as the last, and that you could relax on vacation. Love the line my home is wherever my fiance is happy.
Thanks buddy, yea everything worked out in the end 🙏
The market is a bitch man. Debt is too, im trying to knock out as much as i can. Then i can take a rip and have more peace lol. Youll find a nice spot eventually, or try a few right!
One day I just hope to own some place but it looks like it will be out in the middle of no where anyways 😅 don't mind getting away from the people and BS once we are out of this financial hole taking risks will be manageable 🤞
That knock on the door is always dreaded. I'm glad that the story ended up ok. I've been in similar situations and with young children. Somehow, things worked out for us, too.
You must be putting good vibes into the universe 😉
