Children: 5 minute freewrite
Normally for my free-write I try to set a scene and build as much of a story as possible for the allotted time. This one will be different. When I saw the prompt children all i got were the horrors. Screaming, running children just getting in the way and causing misery. I know this mightn't be the popular opinion, as I have been told in the past and I certainly don't hate kids but what I do hate is out of control kids.
I work in a busy shop so have to deal with kids running around screaming all day long long. While we do get some lovely kids that are cute and shy. For the most part what we end up with is the crazy ones. Tripping over customers and stealing from the open sections.
Now I know that children are young and impressionable and I don't have any myself so people will probably slam me for commenting. But when I see a child stealing nuts or pulling at something until it breaks. I can't help but wonder how the parent, (usually standing right there with a bored look on their face), doesn't say something.
If you try to subtly bring it to their attention that the little monster beside them is about to pull down a sign on their head the just stare back at you with a hollow look, leaving it to you to say it to the child which is never what you want to do.
I know from how I was raised that you did what you were told and that was it. There was no other view on it. Maybe someday I will have children of my own and stand there on the phone while they ruin somebody else's day or property but for now all I can do is vent about other peoples that I have to deal with.

I have children and like kids for the most part - but not out of control kids. And I totally blame the parents - not the kids. They only behave the way they do because they do not get any guidance. I totally believe in self- expression and allowing children freedom - but they need to be taught how to behave.
Many parents have no clue about anything and it drives me nuts!!

They always are.
I feel the same way sometime. Children sometimes misbehave and the parents don't do anything to stop them. I imagine that the parents react that way because they have to deal with the little demons all day and are tired, lol.
I dont have any myself bit I'm sure it cant be easy. The amount of energy that goes into raising kids must be phenomenal. So i understand how they can tune out. Doesnt mean i have to enjoy it.
Hi @crookshanks I do hear what your saying! But as a parent things can be very difficult- usually because of sleep deprivation. So when you wrote "bored" or "hollow" I identified with them and saw - exhausted to the point of collapse and no one to give them a hand or a break! I wrote something about parenting on my own blog from a parent & toddler pov. I wont link it though as it isnt a #freewrite. Good luck with those pesky kids!
Ah look they arent the worst. Some can be downright cute, we do have a few lovely pnes that just make you smile.
As a mom of five children, I can say that you're not alone in not wanting to deal with out of control children! Especially once I had my own children, I had no patience with parents who let their kids run wild, maybe even LESS patience than I had before! Really great post!
