RE: Day 675: 5 Minute freewrite monday prompt : Good Night kiss

in #freewrite5 years ago

I feel the loss - because I had a grandpa too! Not one who kissed us goodnight, but who allowed us in his lap, unlike our grandma, who NEVER held us or kissed us or displayed any affection. Just being in Grandpa's lap was the biggest thing ever. My mom had an uncle who entered her life when she was about ten and exited it only a year later (killed in a car wreck), but while he was in town, in her life, he spent time with her. They walked hand-in-hand along the road hunting asparagus. This was small-town America in the 1940s, when children ran free, and nobody worried about uncles as companions. Uncle Ralph filled an empty spot in her days (my mom was the woman of the house at age ten, her mother having died long before her). Sorry, I digress, but I think you've captured a sense of loss that I can identify with. Little Gigi misses her grandpa's goodnight kiss - no matter that she still has parents her love her; she has lost her special someone!
