This is my Day 133: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: the attic
The dust settled around her as she opened the attic door. The scent of moss and must filled her senses. The light filtered through from the window, cutting lines through the darkness surrounding her. The air felt stale, as if the room was closing in around her. She climbed the rest of the way in the boxes littered the floor with an inch of dust covering them.
She began to look around for the ancient trunk that she knew was buried deep within. She felt out of place but it pulled her in like a magnet, memories flooded her mind as she looked at the pictures leaning against the wall of old times growing up in this home, of better easier times. She knew she had to get out of there before her reality became the past and the past her reality. She couldn't relive those times again, they were gone and she cannot look back.
She dived deep within the attic, jumping over places she knew were weak so she wouldn't fall through the ceiling. That's when she found it, tucked in the back, just as it had been all those years ago. She opened it and pulled out her mom's old wedding dress. It's just as she remembered it to be when she was younger and played dress up, it oddly even smelled the same - just like her mother used to. Her eyes filled with tears as her fingers ran across the lace fabric. Yes, this was the dress...
