Of all the problems China has (and good God Almighty there are enough to write an entire blog on, which is precisely what I've done), this is one I managed to miss.
Well spotted, and well-written.
Regarding their work on a digital currency, I suspect that the app used for transfers will be WeChat and that the only access to the only exchange where this currency can be bought or sold will be through that. That way, with the already-existent ability to freeze a person's WeChat account for "posts deemed disloyal to the Party (I've personally fallen victim to this one several times)," the Party will have the power to render an individual a complete financial non-person if they put a single verbal toe out of line.

WeChat and Alipay. I probably forgot to mention about it in the post. Never been to China but the way this changes might affect the citizens I wouldn't even think of moving there. Sad, but true. I live in an ex-communist country and I know how important freedom of speech, travel and privacy are.
