Preserving Freedom

You may have heard a version of the quote, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (George Santayana). But what has been forgotten? What is the impact? I ran across a speech given by Ronald Reagan about 57 years ago. Some people today would think, "How could it apply today?" It certainly does.
I think we should all memorize and internalize when he says:
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Are we, society at large, protecting freedom today? No. We are Not. Too many are giving in to fear and division. They choose to believes lies and sacrifice freedom for a false sense of security. Again as President Reagan said in his speech,
"You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down - [up] man's old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism."
"Those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course."
"You and I have the ability and the dignity and the right to make our own decisions and determine our own destiny."
How does this apply today? To me these are profound statements against mandates. The fear, lies, discrimination, and human experimentation that are prevalent today are very reminiscent of the occurrences under the Nazis and other totalitarian regimes. We must say no to mandates, stand up and fight to preserve freedom.
Care for each other. Say no to censorship. Share God's Love. Share Truth.
