Teaching Our Children Liberty: The Tuttle Twins and their Spectacular Show Business
It's Tuttle Twin Tuesday!
Every Tuesday for the next 8 weeks, I will review each of the Tuttle Twin books. Today's book is Tuttle Twins and their Spectacular Show Business.
Inspired by visiting Broadway in NYC and watching "Shark Pool", the twins decide to open their own local theatre.
The Tuttle Twins and their Spectacular Show Business
The Tuttle Twins have a "shark" in their family, their nana has the resources and the building that could make the dream of show business a reality. But forming a plan to put together a business is hard work - the twins are prepared to do what it takes to make it happen.
What a great opportunity, nana owns a building for their theater!
How does a child become an entrepreneur?
That is really what this book is about - encouraging children to take initiative and seek wise council and funding to begin profitable business. The children learn about what it takes, including assessing skills, networking and budgeting.
Sometimes it's not only what you know, but also who you know.
Learning how to budget is a valuable skill for young people.
Being an Entrepreneur
The opportunity to teach our children some of the concepts and skills to be competitive in business is a rare find. I've never before seen a children's book that teaches many concepts that adults have a difficult time with. Even myself!
While most people prefer the relative safety of working at a job for somebody else, others are more interested in the independence, excitement and creative problem solving that are all part of starting your own business and being an entrepreneur.
This book is based on the work of Dr. Israel M. Kirzner
A quote from Dr. Israel M. Kirzner:
"The proper role of the entrepreneur in the market system is not typically presented in its true light, or with adequate recognition for its being the driving force for the entire market process."
This book teaches children about entrepreneurship.
At the end of the book, we ask our children a few questions:
- Why is there potential reward when risk is involved?
- What are the problems with monopolies?
- What kind of business could you start in the next few months?
- What prevents more people from becoming an entrepreneur?
