Thanks! It is 'Power Over' that is the problem. Is Steem Power also a form of 'Power Over' - well, in some senses, yes - and in others, no. SP exercises power over the flow of public information in steemit - which those without SP cannot do much to stop - so in that sense it is a form of 'power over'. However, no-one is forcing us to use Steemit, so in that sense it is all voluntary and thus the 'power over' is limited to those who agree to experience it.
The most problematic 'Power Over' is the kind that is enforced using violence.

thankyou for answering so brilliantly this simple question @ura-soul ) Power is influence over others whether they like it or not !! Sure violence is the worst sort of power and as Mao said " change comes down the barrel of a gun " At least after a flag on steemit we leave the person alive ! Power freaks need to be held in check when they endanger the surrounding community !!

Thanks! Just to clarify, I do note agree that:

Power is influence over others whether they like it or not

Power is specifically not that at all. 'Power OVER' is as you described there.

Yes, Steemit and other websites remove the risk of physical harm to some extent, so we can more closely examine the logic involved in interactions.. That is one of the good sides to social networks for me. :)
