RE: THE LIBERAL OPINION - The disappearance of Alex Jones - The End of Free Speech #FreeAlexJones

in #freealexjones6 years ago

I don't know Alex Jones. Had not paid attention to the "hate speech" or whatever he is spouting. Like you I do believe in free speech. When that is abused to generate hate, many untruths, cause fear, Serve the interests of one group over another or any other abuse. If proven, I do think there should be some consequence for the behavior. Since it seems that corporations are taken over management of all things that serve the masses guess they got the ability to apply the consequences. BTW... I am more concerned with corporations behavior over the radicals that stir the weak minded into a frenzy, but they are a concern also. Still... what to prioritize? I think global warming should get some more attention. Follow that up with so many other areas of humanity that need attention. Its a good thing we have the power of unyielding hope. May get thru this yet.

Sort:

"Hate speech" rules are a huge problem, and a precedent such like Alex Jones' case is very dangerous for the freedom of expression, and political speech.
It is important to remember that Freedom of Speech exist not to protect you saying "I like puppies", but to protect your right to say "I eat puppies".
I don't think we should give un-elected heads of corporations carte blanche to regulate things, we specifically prohibit the government which we do chose from regulating.
Maybe I'm an in the wrong, but I rather live on a dessert but have freedoms, than live in a green dystopia where "they" police my thoughts.
What's being called "Hateful" too many times is just synonymous with "Offensive",
anything can be offensive to somebody.
If a person is wrong about something, pointing that out will offend them.
What if the "whole world" is wrong about something?
Should you be able to point that out?
The way things go, it seems that soon, Corporations will be the new Ministry of Truth.
Dictating what you can and cannot say.
No matter the merit, no matter the context.
That is what I'm concerned with.
As for what should take priority,
I am of the belief that we are capable to tackle more than one issue at a time.
We can combat Thought Police, and Not put arsenic in our water.
We can talk about Free Speech, and Separate plastic, glass and paper in our trash.
We can challenge dangerous ideas, and promote atomic, wind, and solar power.
