FRAGMENTS:Decentralized platform for micro-task apps.

MEANING
Fragments platforms provide little incentives for developers to extend them and build new micro-task applications. As a result, making use of human workforce in a wide variety of areas,
is still difficult.

Fragments will be a mobile-first decentralized platform, which incentivizes de-velopers to build future micro-task applications that we cannot imagine today. Our goal is to create a trusted platform, by implementing identity-management and agree-ments on the blockchain and providing self-hosted solutions, while reducing costs and barriers to entry for allrequesters, annotators, and developers.

MISSION

Micro-task platform
Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (Mturk) started to form the
micro-task landscape in 2005, with many others following suit later on. However,
focus of the micro-task services remain limited – most are focused on annotating data
for AI only1 and MTurk, while having no limitations on the nature of task, requires
requesters to provide the entire UI/UX (with only some collections of templates available) themselves and annotators cannot easily navigate MTurk on platforms other than desktop. In addition to this, commissions, entry fees and fees for good-quality workers, are often high on these services.

UNIQUENESS
Services and solutions that provide human intelligence already exist. For example,
Amazon Mechanical Turk, CrowdSource, Cloudfactory and CrowdFlower provide an
online workforce; Kaggle and Qlik DataMarket sell structured and labeled datasets;and companies that need their data annotated privately, often use in-house teams to do so.

Developers
nce the platform is alive with requesters and annotators, the developers can follow.
Easy entry. We aim to make it easy for developers to join Fragments platform.
Various SDKs and templates, as well as good documentation, will enable developers
to get up to speed quickly and the data collection and annotation app by Frag-
ments, will show them all the mechanisms of the platform (and potentially serve as
a template as well).Incentives through commissions. Once the ecosystem is large enough, the opportunities will be broad for developers, and there will be money to make on the platform, by creating clever and successful micro-task apps that are used by many
requesters and annotators.

8Conclusions

The Fragments platform aims to provide the following value for its users.Requesters. With ready-to-use micro-task apps on the Fragments platform, in-troducing a flexible and scalable human workforce in a project, will be as easy as
acquiring some cryptocurrency, adding a framework to your project and setting a few
parameters. Requesters can decide what micro-task apps they want to use based on the value they provide and the commission they take, or build on the bare-bones Fragments platform with zero commissions.

Businesses will benefit from the ability to mix in-house annotators with those contracted over the Fragments platform. With verifiable agreements on blockchain and self-hosted solutions, the control of sensitive data is enhanced.annotators. The barriers to entry are very low – no bank account or computer is required. Annotators can complete tasks on their device of choice and pick a micro-task app which features interesting tasks and allows them to be efficient. Payments are received in tokens that can be converted to other cryptocurrency or real-world money.
