Steem is a blockchain that has been abandoned and Hive is the continuation of the steem. Why do you want tokens on the blockchain that the whole community has abandoned?

Not giving someone free tokens and stealing the tokens someone already has are 2 very different things.

This is not how forks are handled traditionally. Even Etherium's fork, which undid a transaction did so by rolling back the clock on the chain prior to the smart contract's creation that froze Kazillions of tokens unintentionally. HIVE has changed the history of the blockchain by removing tokens from certain accounts while transferring some to others. They sell the hacks as airdrops is a narrative spin like the fork being necessary for decentralisation purposes. Let's see how that worked out....

Hive is more like Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Bitcoin SV (BSV) and Bitcoin Gold (BTG): A new chain with a copy of all assets.

Hive is absolutely how forks are handled traditionally.

Of course none of those forks removed assets from accounts. That was a mistake.

The only change to the bitcoin spin offs happened after the respective fork of each version. Past history was not changed. Even Etherium's fork, which removed a transaction, did so by rolling back the clock to before a certain smart contract was created which unintentionally froze Kazillions of tokens.

There was a blacklist in the HIVE forks resyncing code that specifically removed assets of targeted accounts. Your comparison is odious.

Was my last sentence not clear enough? And what part of “That was a mistake.” didn't convey my opposition to the black list?

Perhaps my reading stopped at, "Hive is absolutely how forks are handled traditionally."

One does not exclude the other: The itself fork handled traditionally. Applying a black list as first step of the new chain was a mistake.

I had a quick peek at the source code and I'm pretty sure that's how it was done: Traditional fork and then clean out the accounts from a hard coded black list.

Now both chains have deprived users of funds. How can we ever trust them again?

Maybe they will zero everyone's Steem, and then give an airdrop of "free tokens" to everyone except those people. That still wouldn't be right? Would it?

If the rumors are true, these people don't deserve this, and neither did the people who were given the exact same treatment at Hive (myself included). It was a dangerous precedent to set, and the Hive devs should have realized that when they set it.

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

You may call it an airdrop, or robbery. Whatever the case, it's stench is corruption.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this one. Again, taking everyones steem would be stealing something you already have. If I start a new blockchain tomorrow I am under no obligation to give anyone anything. Not giving you free things is completely different than taking something that is already yours.

It would be like if I started a company that gave free hats to everyone on Steemit, except for you. Sure, it sucks you don't get a free hat and everyone else did but I am not required to give you a free hat from the company I started. That is completely different than me going into your house and taking the hat you already own.

We might disagree on this issue but I sure as hell am glad we can have a discussion about it. I don't think it is right to censor someone for a difference of opinions. Communicating with people who have different opinions is the only way to at least try to see their point of view.

But your company stole all of the work I did for my company. Your company was even too lazy to zero out the records of my work. Your company just did not acknowledge the products of that work, and said that they gave everyone else free hats for the work they had done for my company. Your company excluded me despite the fact that your company is legit built on the work I did for my company.

If you were in my position, perhaps you would feel differently about a group of individuals copying four years of content, and excluding the stake that represents that content. The transactions are there, and they are fictional. Your company is corrupt.

You do understand open-source, particularly the MIT license, don’t you?

Nothing was stolen. STEEM and HIVE are based on the same public ledger blockchain. You own the keys. It is your content. Copying is not theft.

f I start a new blockchain tomorrow I am under no obligation to give anyone anything.

This is not traditional for blockchain forks. Normally the history of the chain is consistent up until the fork. Even if one is going to fork to their own hacked historical record which removed rewards from certain accounts, then should they not also erase all content from said accounts which may be bringing value to the new chain. No obligation of course yet ethically they seem like vindicitive school boys.

if they do a hard fork, split the chain into for example "NEW STEEM" list it on exchanges so there is STEEM and NEW STEEM that would be legit, and no one would have a problem with that. you need to create new chain for that.
