If a strong earthquake shakes the city, then the foundations of the building that grew to be a skyscraper will decide whether or not it will stand and be repairable, or will collapse beyond recovery.

You can't build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you're going to have a strong superstructure.
Similarity with your thoughts. If they have a sound foundation, they withstand waves and tribulations. If not, they will drop into nothingness like a leaf.
