Anyone need purslane seeds?
My purslane seeds arrived from France. I have enough I can share with about 10 people.
I can handle the postage for so few packages, so they are free.
But I will need a mailing address to send it to. To prevent you from having to share your address to the world, I set up a gmail account specifically for use on Steemit.
So everyone will know when they are gone and I will know when to go check my email, I would appreciate it if you could comment below that you have sent your address.
You will receive:
Portulaca oleracea (common purslane)
Purslane self seeds if you let the seed pods open on their own, so you don't have to do a lot of preparing to sow them. If you already have a lot of weeds or grass in the area you plan on planting them in, scrape it back and rough up the surface of the dirt. Then lightly sprinkle. They are use to areas where many plants refuse to grow.
You will receive several hundred very tiny seeds. I won't be counting them, lol. They prefer a sunny, well-drained place. They are a succulent variety and too much water will kill them.
They are considered invasive in many areas. If you are afraid they will take over, you can grow them in beds or containers. It is a very pretty plant you would happily have growing in containers on your front porch, walkway or deck.
All parts of the plant, including the seeds are edible. They can be eaten raw, cooked, baked with other foods or pretty much any way you can think of to use them. They have an extraordinary level of EPA that is higher than fish, algae, and flax seeds. It contains vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, as well as magnesium, calcium, potassium, and iron.”
Sent an email! Thank you so much, I followed your page and look forward to more interesting foraging content.
I've heard it is supposed to be good for you but have never tried. Please let us know.
medicinally it is not a powerhouse, but nutritionally it is a BIG powerhouse!
what a kind gesture!! i just sent over an email - thank you so much for doing this.
I never thought I'd be so excited over seeds, but have to tell you this: I have lived in many places around the western states and have seen purslane growing everywhere UNTIL I moved here to the far north and found out how very healthy these little plants really are and now I never see it growing wild here anywhere. Have been reading up on the plant and have been kicking myself for not paying closer attention when I had it easily accessible.
Steemit once again changes my world. This is such a kind offer and I appreciate it so very much. Sent you an e-mail.
I will be picking out some prime locations for sowing the seeds and do my homework!
What a nice gesture fernowl13. I love to nibble on these sour sweet leaves when I walk by. They produce millions of seeds per plant every year. True abundance!
Did you know that in arrid places purslane plants are told to pump water from deep underground to the surface, making it available for other plants? And the florish right in that time, where water is scarse! A very valuable plant for my region here in mediterranean Portugal.
I WOULD love some.. but in return, let me send you some seeds you may need.
Email sent
That would be GREAT! I sent you a message earlier. When you get a second check it out. Brainstorming a new idea, lol. I will email you my address in a short short.
I still have 6 more packages available for anyone who wants them.
You’re so sweet to offer this! I wonder if it’s at all different than our local wild purslane- which we looooove! Happy sowing
If yours is the normal yellow flower variety, it is the exactly same thing. Some of the newer cross varieties might be edible, but I haven't done the research to find out yet. The yellow flowers are pretty enough for me and they grow well enough to suit me, lol.
I would love to receive a package of these if they are still available. Sent an e-mail.
You are on the list!
Still 5 packages left. Seeds will go out in the mail on Monday.
