Football Contest - Bringing the best in the world to Éire Rovers
The year is 2356 and the robots have long dominated the domestic leagues of football throughout the world. The Italian league was the last to integrate the robots in 2267 and today ~Android Maldini~ is regarded by many as the best defender to ever play the game.
The robots brought a new level of dedication and strength to the game, which the majority of humans simply couldn't compete with. Only players with the steel, tenacity and grit of Roy Keane of 300 years ago continued to play alongside the robots.
Now a little about myself, I didnt choose football management, rather football management picked me. You see when your father, and your fathers father and his father before him were reknonwed football managers, then it is only natural that you too follow in those ancestral footsteps.
Before the 2130s, the Irish league was unheard of internationally. That decade proved a turning point and Irish side Éire Rovers went from strength to strength and qualified for the Champions league in 2136 for the first time. They have made it to 4 finals since but never lifted the coveted trophy.
As we start into the 2356 season, we are tipped by many pundits to do well in the competition again, but few think we'll win it outright. I don't just think we'll win it this year, I know it, as I am about to land child prodigy Jimmy Carter. Jimmy is the best player I've ever seen play the game and was signed by Barcelona when he was just 14 and played for the first team 3 days before his 15th birthday. Jimmy has a football brain like Pirlo and the skill and guile of Barca legend of 3 centuries ago Lionel Messi.
Jimmy was cutting his teeth in the league of Ireland as a 13 year old child super star at the same time that my Éire team were winning domestic leagues year after year. We knew each other intimately and he always said he'd like to play for me some day.
My scout in Spain had told me that Jimmy was growing impatient at Barca. He was the only non robot in that team and he longed for a team with more humans. My first team has 8 humans, more than any professional team in the world.
This would be my primary bargaining chip when convincing Jimmy to join us at Éire Rovers. The second one was monetary and equally important to many players, less so to Jimmy. However I knew his agent Grahm Reed or "Greedy" as he was known to everybody wanted money and lots of it.
Luckily for me, those 37 bitcoins that I inherited are now worth €167 Billion which will pay for half the transfer fee.
In the end it proved even easier than I thought to convince Jimmy to seek a transfer away from Barca. It turned out he had been longing for a move to a human centric team for years and his form, although explosive may have an another gear to jump to. This excited me, the board and everyone at Éire Rovers. Jimmy knew my pedigree as a manager and he knew he could improve further under my tutelage. His agent pushed for an additional 30% bonus if we won the Champions League. We offered 23% and Jimmy signed. Truth be told Jimmy would have signed for no bonus.
Someone asked me how much will Jimmy play in his first season? I laughed. "Every single game" was my response. Jimmy doesn't do benches, for he loves the game, not the dollar bills like Greedy Reedy.
So we have huge expectations as we enter the 2356 season. This will be our year, in fact this will be our decade. Jimmy is 22 and has signed an 8 year contract with Éire rovers. The future is bright, very bright!
I know what Jimmy can bring to my team. No player, robot or android can hold a light to Jimmy.
