The most football crazy states in India are all in the northeast namely Nagaland, Meghalaya & Mizoram, which are all small Christian majority states in India, along with Manipur, which is a small Hindu majority state whose Hindu population converted from traditional religion called Sanamahi to Hinduism in the early 18th century.
Elsewhere in India, Cricket – not football – is a religion.

The Indian team played bare-footed against Burma, in the first match, and France, in the second match. The team lost 2–1 to France.
