Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk became the hero of the Nations League clash against rival Germany after scoring a dramatic last-gasp equalizer to secure the 2:2 draw – a result which sees Oranje qualified for the tournament's semi-finals.

Germany, who are still in search for recovery from post-traumatic disorder caused by disastrous 2018 World Cup campaign, had a bright start of the game. Joachim Low’s squad pressed upfront from the starting whistle and scored on 9th minute. It was Timo Werner, who grabbed an opener with a fabulous strike from outside the box.

10 minutes later Manchester City wonder kid Leroy Sane extended the hosts’ lead by profiting from De Ligt’s defensive error.

Later Germany entirely controlled the game and created the number of chances in front but failed to take the advantage of it. Low’s side was confident of winning until the 85th minute when Sevilla winger Quincy Promes produced a decent goal from the edge of the area. Less than 5 minutes later, literally at the death, Liverpool powerhouse Virgil van Dijk smashed the ball into the opposition’s net after a fine pass fro Tonny Vilhena.

  • The all-square result helped the Oranje to reach the last four of the Nations League competition alongside with England, Portugal and sensational Switzerland
  • Meanwhile, the German side has now gone five games without a win – their worst run since 1979

Germany is not lucky in the last minutes of a game anymore

They will impove sooner or later. But it's really difficult to say when exactly.
