Former Pakistani football team captain Ali Nawaz passes away.

Ali Nawaz Baloch, a former captain of the Pakistani football team who played for his country in several international competitions, passed away early on Friday in Karachi.

Baloch had a stroke last week from which he never fully recovered. Today at Karachi's KMC Stadium will be the striker's burial service.

The well-known Lyari-born football player received the President's Pride of Performance award in 1996.

Beginning in 1986, Nawaz held the position of vice-president of the Pakistan Football Federation for 16 years.

He also served on the AFC Expert Committee from 1990 to 1993.

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and AFC President Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa honored Nawaz with the AFC Distinguished Service Award in 2013.
