Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric has been sentenced to an Eight-Month suspended jail term after admitting to committing tax fraud.

The 33-year old made a guilty plea after being accused of defrauding the Spanish authorities to the tune of €870,000.

Modric first defrauded the tax authorities €290,000 before using Ivano SARL, a Luxembourg based company to further defraud €580,000.

The Croatia captain initially paid €1 million at the beginning of the case but has now been ordered to pay 40 percent of the amount he defrauded which sums up to about €348,000.

He joins the rank of big names to have been indicted in the tax fraud cases in Spanish football.

Jose Mourinho was sentenced to a one-year suspended jail term for tax evasion between 2007 and 2009 during his six-year stint with Real Madrid and fined €2 million.

Lionel Messi was last year sentenced to 21-month suspended jail term for his own tax evasion crime as well and fined €2 million as well.

Cristiano Ronaldo as well of recent made his own guilty plea and was fined €19 million for tax fraud between 2011 and 2014.
