My thoughts on the chaos in the Spanish international team
After what happened with the spanish football manager, I feel it has to be said that it isn't just Lopetegui's fault, everyone shares a lot of the Blame.
Let's recap, yesterday Real Madrid announces they are hiring Julen Lopetegui as their new manager, not through the usual means of negotiation, but by buying his release clause, an unilateral decision made by them with no consultation (allegedly) with the Spanish football federation.
The response was that a few hours ago, Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish federation, made a press conference (it was supposed to be made alongside Lopetegui, but in reality only Rubiales came out) stating that Lopetegui would stop working with the team, not because he was a bad manager, because they respect him and admire him, but because the way the situation was conducted...the curious thing is that IF Lopetegui had left Spain through the release clause, Real Madrid would have had to pay the federation 2 million euros for his contract, and by firing him, reports say they have to pay Lopetegui 3 millions instead.
Both Lopetegui and Real Madrid could have waited until after the world cup to make it official, so the rest of the world wouldn't be distracted by the news, and Rubiales should have allowed him to finish the world cup and then crucified him in a press conference if that's what they fancied, they truly did shoot themselves in the foot here by making such a rash decision 2 days before the world cup starts for them...a more reasonable solution would have been to say "We have heard the news and right now, Lopetegui is Spain's manager, and we are confident he has his focus set on winning this cup for us, we will see what happens after the tournament ends".
Spain has disrupted the team twice now, first by hearing about their manager going to Madrid, a team a big part of the players have no love for, and second seeing how he gets fired like that, meaning all the continuity, they guy that has trained them for about two years, leaves 2 days before the competition they have been training for, and is replaced by Fernando Hierro, a guy that doesn't have a lot of experience as manager, something that hurts double for Real Madrid players, because the guy that got fired is actually their new coach.
I don't see how that locker room is going to be happy with what just happened and I have to say I don't see Spain winning the world cup anymore.
