As Confused as FIFA, Modric: Captain Fantastic

in #football6 years ago

FIFA is an abbreviation, it stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association which means International Federation of Association Football in English. It was founded in 1904 and the headquarters operate from Zurich, Switzerland.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the men category of the best player for a decade now, and the record have been broken by no other than Luca Modric of Croatia and Real Madrid. After almost single handedly taking his Croatian team to the World Cup finals in Russia but before then he helped Real Madrid to win the champions league for the third time in a row (the first time since it became champions league).
He deserved to win the award after clinching the World Cup golden boy (he deserved it more than the last World Cup winner), the European best player, beating his former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo and also Mohammed Salah of Egypt and Liverpool.
Don't take it away from Luka, he really deserved it big time.

He's my captain fantastic, he led by example.
He's shown age is just number.
Players like Neymar, Hazard, Mbappe etc were tipped to break the decade record of Messi and Ronaldo's dominance, but he broke that himself.

When the nominees were released, I was surprised not to see Lionel Messi's name on the list, after what he did for Barcelona (winning the La Liga, and copa del ray) not just winning these competitions, he was an integral part of the team, scoring and assisting so many goals in the process. Though this was past.

Fast forward to yesterday's award presentation, Salah was nominated along with Modric and Ronaldo, but he wasn't part of the team of the season, WHY?

The team comprising of
David De Gea - Manchester United/Spain
Dani Alves - PSG/Brazil
Varane - Real Madrid/France
Sergio Ramos - Real Madrid/Spain
Marcelo - Real Madrid/Brazil
Kante - Chelsea/France
Modric - Real Madrid/ Croatia
Messi - Barcelona/Argentina
Hazard - Chelsea/Belgium
Mbappe - PSG/France
Ronaldo - Real Madrid, juventus/ Portugal

All the players listed above are deserving to be there but Eden Hazard (no disrespect), he's a world class player (no doubt about that) but not at the expense of Mohammed Salah.
Mohammed Salah against all odds last season became the best player in EPL, highest goal scorer and he broke virtually every record in his first season in English football.
We all know how lots of players come to EPL and don't do well in their first season, but this was not the case for Salah, he helped Liverpool to top four finish, and also helped them to the prestigious champions league final (which they eventually lost to Real Madrid), he was also the integral part of the Egyptian team that qualified to the World Cup in Russia 2018.
Why was he not included in the team of the season?
Instead they are compensating him with Puscas goal of the season, the goal which wasn't his best goal for last season to start with, the goal didn't deserve to win the goal of the week not to talk of the goal of the month how much more the goal of the year.
When we have so many great goals that's supposed to win the Puscas award. Cristiano Ronaldo's and Bale's acrobatic goals in the semi final and finals respectively, and so many great goals around the globe.
The goal that won the Puscas wasn't even nominated in the EPL goal of the season.

Another issue is that how did Ronaldo know he will not win the award?
He knew he has lost the award, that's why he didn't show up?
Did FIFA told him he wasted the winner?
Or did he see the votes from players and coaches all over the world?
FIFA have so many unanswered questions.

They are really confused.
