There were certainly some World Cup blues for the Swedes who looked a shadow of the side that reached the quarter-finals, where they were knocked out by England.

Bayern Munich star David Alaba was involved in both of Austria's goals as they put on a show for the home fans.

Austria continued their impressive record against Sweden with a comfortable win in Vienna. The last time the pair played was during the Euro 2016 qualifiers and Austria came out on top as they won that group.

But it was Sweden who reached the World Cup this summer while Austria were forced to sit at home and watch.

Sweden started the match brightly as they threatened the Austrian goal but in the end they caused their own problems and handed Austria the lead.

Alaba swung a cross into the Sweden box and goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt came to meet it. But he only managed to punch it into the path of Filip Helander who could do nothing as it bounced off him into the net after 11 minutes.

Alaba was involved once again as he scored Austria's second midway through the second-half. It involved some neat play with Marko Arnautovic, who laid it back to Alaba before the Austria captain fired it into the far corner.

Sweden did call Heinz Lindner into action on a couple of occasions but surrendered a lot of possession to the Austrians during the friendly.

Arnautovic, who has had a difficult start to the season with West Ham, looked sharp up front as he caused the Swedish defence problems.

He pulled a ball back across the face of goal early on in the second-half for an easy finish but there were no takers.

It was down to Alaba to seal the victory with a great finish after he found himself on the edge of the box.

Both sides get their UEFA Nations League campaign underway next week, with Austria facing Bosnia and Herzegovina while Sweden host Turkey.
