I'm very much in favor of an eight-team playoffs, as well as getting rid of the conference championships if necessary.

If it weren't for polls and bowls, the FBS would have no choice but to use a true playoff system. Unfortunately, there's too many people who like the way it is, for the prestige or profit it affords them. Nothing wrong with either necessarily, but when it's only about the power and the money then the actual sport suffers. Great for the conferences and the universities, not so great for the fans. The players get caught in the middle.
