Without any doubts or contradictions, Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents in all fields of life. In the world today Nigerian's are doing great in every of their chosen careers with or without any serious assistance from others. One area that is of importance and concern to me for today is the sports circle, especially football. For those that know little or nothing about this great country will be wondering of what am talking about. Why I will agreed with that there are other areas of endeavour that have announced the greatness of this great country, sports stands us out.
Nigeria is a country of over two hundred million in term of population, the country is currently the largest economy in Africa, Nigeria has over two hundred ethnics group and dialects spoken across the country. As diverse as the country his football remain her biggest unifying factor, on several occasions when crisis break out of the country, football has always help to limit and unite the country.
A typical examples of how football had
help to unite the country was when the country won her maiden African Cup of Nation in 1980 and 1994 in Tunisia when the country was still under the military regime. The country later won her third African Cup of Nations in 2013 in South Africa with a wide jubilation from every Nigerian.
Atlanta Olympic in 1996 would continues to reign supreme in the heart of citizens of this great country as the country under 23 team won gold in the football event of the Olympic game. The entire nation was thrown into atmosphere of joy from north to southeast, from west to south.
As it stands today, Nigeria is the most successful country at the FIFA under 17 world cup haven't won the cup for a record 5 times. The country under 17 squad are currently participating at this year FIFA under 17 world cup hosted in Brazil. Nigeria has never lost their opening match at any FIFA under 17 world cup, the feet they maintain when they entertained the Hungarians on Saturday, the match ended 4-2 in favour of the Golden Eaglet of Nigeria.
