Every page of my Panini Football 1990 Sticker Album - Complete
Many moons ago when I was a lad, all I thought about was football. Wind, rain, hailstone, or shine, If there was a ball to kick, I'd be out there doing it.
If the ball burst (normally through overuse on concrete), or some idiot (sometimes me) kicked it onto the school roof, we'd all be completely lost. I didn't know anything else during school break-time.
I'd pick up my dinner ticket (a benefit of single parent families), use it to buy a bag of chips(fries) with cheese, and 4 small sugar infested drinks, and head out with my hands full onto the playground.
Seagulls would lurk, watching carefully for any chips that may be dropped as I raced around trying to get involved early whilst rapidly munching away on my lunch. I never got shat on by a bird at school but no word of a lie, the tallest guy, my friend Darren, suffered 5 times at the hands, or butts of these low flying animals - an average of once a year.
After school we'd usually head to a known field (no mobiles required), and sometimes play til the sun went down. Occasionally, the police would arrive and reluctantly tell us a neighbor had complained about the noise. Football kept us out of trouble, and the police knew it. Oh well, on to the next field.
The weekend was when the professionals played. No 'Monday night football', or 'Friday night live'. Saturday 3pm was kick off for almost all fixtures, apart from one televised 'Divison 1' game on Sunday at 3pm. That was it bar the European games and Internationals, and in 1990 (from 1986), no English teams were playing in Europe anyway. source
We were starved of watching top level football until the early 90's when SKY television came along. However, we did have our sticker albums in which we could idolize our heroes of the day. And today, I present to you my 1990 Panini Football 1990 Sticker Album - Complete and (fairly) intact.
If you would like to see close-ups of any teams/players or pages, let me know.

Being the average writer and conveyor of words that I am, I cannot possibly explain the delights involved in opening a packet of these stickers, aged 11-12, and finding a 'badge' or player you didn't own already, and then placing it carefully into the album. One of my joys of being a child.
I believe this album took months to fill, all my pocket money, and plenty of trading at school.
When I finally completed it, I had a stack of duplicates or 'swapsies' and ended up giving them all away in a huge smash n' grab style way, throwing the lot up into the air in the school yard.
Dear football, I loved you then more than I do now, but I'll cherish this album, and Saturday 3pm. (and 12:30 and 5:30 these days).
Amusingly to me, my daughter was born on a Saturday at 3:05 pm :) Step aside football!

The first person to guess my favorite player in this album gets a 100% up-vote and some extra love and respect.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for all the pages of these completed albums.

Awesome mate.
I've got the completed ones from 76, 77 & 78 in my parents attic.
The 78 is the first ones that were stickers, prior to that you had to glue them in the book yourself.
Great memories in your book buddy.
Thanks man!
1978 is my year of birth :D
Glue must have been a nightmare, I didn't consider the luxury of just peeling the backs off and sticking them in!
Great times though, when football was your world.
Cheers!
It wasn't so bad glueing them in, you got a stick of bubblegum in the pack of 5 cards too!
Not sure my mum would have been so keen had each pack contained teeth rotters!
I do remember my sons collecting stickers like yours (they were born between 1980 and 1984. Reading your story was going back in time. Thank you for this nostalgic post.
Thanks @clio :)
I enjoyed writing this post so i'm glad you liked it also!
Favorite player must have been Glenn Hysen and the favorite team is Liverpool hehe A wild guess
I'm afraid not!
Although I am a fan of a particular 'Red' team and 'Handy' footballer :)
Manchester United?
Good man!
Alex ferguson
Incorrect 😛
It would make sense if it's the goaly, being "handy" and all... but hehe .. why don't you just tell me
Diego Maradona
Safe to say - i was never into football....but the passion of collecting, that i get. Sadly i never finished any of the albums...but i remember collecting some animal ones the most. Think I was shy for 3 stickers to finish it. The sticker was in a chocolate and not packs...so that was lots of chocolate. :)
😊
If you have the albums still, you can sometimes find the stickers you need on eBay.
I bought 2 for the World Cup album a few years back to finish it 😁

In the days that the majority were still native players and not from all over the world (and most times for ridiculous prices)
Indeed, money eh, ruins everything!
I'm from Russia and I am upset by our football, for which they are paid so much money ???? whether it's Messi or Ronaldo, they are football gladiators
Football is a business, and a successful one if you are the top.
Just think of the structure being like Steemit and you'll be ok :)
maybe you're right
