[Food] Bongpo Meoguri Mulhoe - Sokcho, Korea

Sokcho is my go-to place for a quick weekend getaway or even a day trip.
It's only about 2-3 hours away from Seoul, has the quiet majesty of the East Sea coast, and houses great yet down-to-earth seafood restaurants, thanks to the nearby harbours.

Mulhoe is a popular dish in Sokcho. It's basically sliced raw fish in cold broth.

The broth is slightly spicy, super refreshing, and very lightly frozen over to almost a slush.
Inside are thin slices of abalone, sea cucumber, assorted white fish, octopus, sea squirt, octopus, and sea urchin roe.

We ordered two different types of mulhoe, cuttlefish sausages (far right in the picture), which are basically a whole cuttlefish stuffed with minced meat and vegetables, and sea urchin rice (picture below).

We paid about $18 USD per person for the four main dishes, extra noodles for the broth, and all the side dishes you see in the picture above.

Bonpo Meoguri is a very popular mulhoe place in Sokcho. The last time I tried my luck there, there were 200 people waiting with a 2-hour waiting time, even with their huge, 4-storey space. There is another place just as popular in sokcho, called Cheongposu Mulhoe, but I personally found that Bongpo tends to be a bit more generous with their seafood.

속초 명물인 봉포 머구리집에 물회 먹으러 다녀왔다.
저번에는 평일 오후 4시쯤 갔는데도 대기시간이 2시간이 넘어서 결국 못 먹고 왔기 때문에 이번에도 살짝 걱정이 되었지만 다행히 바로 착석했다!

모듬물회, 전복해삼물회, 오징어순대, 성게알밥을 주문하니 간장새우를 포함한 기본 찬이 나오고 소면사리도 인원수대로 나온다. 4명이 가서 인당 18000원 정도 내고 정말 배부르게 먹고 나왔다. 봉포 머구리집과 함께 속초 물회의 양대산맥인 청포수물회와 비교해 보자면 청포수물회는 기본 반찬의 가지수가 많고 내부가 조금 더 조용/깔끔한 반면 봉포는 기본 반찬도, 분위기도 딱 불편하지 않을 정도의 선을 지키는 대신 회의 양이 푸짐한 편이고 메뉴도 조금 더 다양하다.
