Go Fish Safely and Perspiration in the Gym

in #food6 years ago

So fish continues to revolve as a popular subject and rightfully so. In order to get the healthiest and safest perspective on fish food, I thought I'd share these tips:
1- Steer clear of King Mackarel, Tilefish, Shark and Swordfish because they are "scavenger fish" which mean they end up eating fish that have eaten fish that have eaten fish ...that means a much higher consumption of mercury on the part of these 4 fishes
2- Go chunk light more often than white when it comes to canned tuna
3- When it comes to fresh tuna sushi - go easy - since we now know that tuna has mercury and its an often eaten fish when it comes to sushi - and we all tend to eat many pieces of sushi at one sitting
4- Buy fish fresh since fish can "turn an spoil easily" if not stored in proper refrigeration. Remember if you buy fresh fish you want to get it home quickly and in the frig and cook it preferably that day. Otherwise freeze it.
5- When it comes to pregnant women, women contemplating pregnancy or small children - choose the smaller fishes like petrale sole or tilapia or salmon - all of which tend to have less mercury and have it once or twice a week maximum.
6- Fish is a superior protein because it has healthy fats so do include it in your diet - just beware the precautionary tips

Do you eat alot of fish? What kinds? Any great recipes? Any concerns?

So there seems to be an ongoing dialogue about what is acceptable when it comes to perspiration in the gym!! I have to tell you my pet peeve which is if you go ahead and workout hard and sweat a fair amount - clean up with spray cleaner and towels so the area is somewhat clean for the next person. It's no longer an etiquette issue - MRSA and people who may unknowingly shed staph pose a risk to anyone who might have a cut or some kind of even small scrape or wound. I do think it is fair to ask someone to cover up sufficiently if they do sweat alot - and there are plenty of affordable trendy exercise tops and pants that are cheap and have "wicking material" so you aren't uncomfortable while you exercise. I do value comfort - I also value feeling good about yourself when you exercise - It's just become a safety issue to some degree.

So it's become more of a discussion of health and less about whether its "cool or comfortable" to have it your way. The age of MRSA is here to stay and so its probably a good idea to protect ourselves and others. Just a thought>>>
