Pineapple Express (world's easiest way to cut a pineapple)

in #food8 years ago

Spring is here and we are starting to see the blooming of beautiful wild flowers and the emergence of summer fruit. One of my favorite summer fruits is the venerable pineapple. Pineapple is the official fruit of Hawaii and also a universal symbol for hospitality. That is why you always see pineapples carvings and symbolism at hotels and resorts. Pineapples have also been called the fruit of colonialism as it was a commodity that European colonists sought to develop pineapple plantations all across South America and the Caribbean. @Ourlifestory send me a pic of some wild pineapples from Curacao. Today I am going to show you how to easily and flawlessly carve a pineapple with this kitchen tool.

Ghana, summer of 2005. We no longer cut pineapples like this.

Pineapple Slicer

I haven't the slightest idea what this tool is called but it works wonders. All you need is a ripe pineapple, a knife, and a pineapple slicer.

  1. Dethrone the pineapple by cutting off the crown.
  2. Place the slicer on top of the pineapple flesh.
  3. Apply slight downward pressure as you turn clockwise
  4. When you get to the bottom of the pineapple, pull the slicer up.
  5. Place the sliced pineapple spiral in a container and enjoy

The really cool thing is once you pull the slices out, you can dink all of that succulent pineapple juice that is sitting with the core. It's quick and it's easy. If I remember correctly, I paid $4.00 USD for mine. Saves time and money as it increases the yield of your fruit. ENJOY!

I got mine at a store called HEB. Bigger than Wal Mart in Texas

jeepers, where has this tool been all my life :) good find!

Wow!!! That's a really cool kitchen gadget!!! I must look to see if I can find one.
I can see that you could easily use the pineapple shell to hold a tropical drink or as a display container if you were making a fruit tray...you might have to cut it down to size, so that it's not too tall, but I think it could make an interesting presentation for something. :)
Thanks for sharing.
