Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes

in #food7 years ago

This is part one of 2 videos. I will be uploading an Irish Potato Cakes video using these mashed potatoes in a few days.

Yukon gold potatoes actually aren't very common in Ireland. Also, spell it St. Patrick. People in Ireland got mad at me when I uploaded Irish food videos last St. Patrick's Day and I spelled it St. Patty. That's also how I found out Yukon gold isn't common there. It makes great mashed potatoes and potato cakes nonetheless.

I made it in a deep dish pan because it's easier to record. A sauce pan is recommended. You may use an electric blender. I prefer mashing by hand. I prefer it a bit chunky.

INGREDIENTS

2 pounds of Yukon gold potatoes

3 tablespoons of unsalted butter

1 cup of whole milk

Chives

Salt
Pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Peel the potatoes. (optional)
Cube the potatoes.
Boil for about 15 minutes until you can easily pierce with a fork.
Drain, but leave a little bit of the water.
Add the butter.
Lower the heat to low.
Add the milk.
Season with salt and pepper.
Mash! Mash! Mash!
Mince and add chives.
Stir.
Enjoy!

I've never tried potato cakes before. I'm sure they are delicious, as I've never had anything with potato that I didn't like.

I found you through Google Plus. I have followed you so that I can keep up with future blog posts.

Thank you! It's so much better being ranked and moderated by my peers on open source than a bot deciding if anyone sees my videos and posts or not. People complain that my videos on youtube are too long, but I kinda have to to get watch time and search engine ranked and have my videos suggested to people outside my subscribers. Watch time on DTube doesn't matter, so I can make them short and straight to the recipes.

I totally agree with you...I loathe the algorithms seen on most social media networks now. Sites like Steemit and D-Tube are a refreshing change.

Yes! Who doesn't like mashed potatoes! (I can do without the chives but yeah I am there.)

It's a perfect compliment for a lunch or dinner with a delicious steak, in my case. Very tasty and I recommend you to try adding also white cheese on your recipe.

Such an easy thing, yet when my brother was working at Trader Joes, he would run into people who were panicking because there was no more instant potatoes on the shelves for Thanksgiving. Painstakingly, my brother would explain how they could do it themselves! Occasionally, someone would come in after Thanksgiving thanking him and telling him how wonderful they had turned out!

Oh, créme fraiche or buttermilk make good, cultured alternatives to regular milk. Get a bit of beneficial bacteria in there!

Thanks for your post, I'm sure there will be a few reading them who realize how easy it is and will try it themselves!
