Principles of nutrition
The food we do eat supplies the body with substances called nutrients that the body uses for building up and repairing tissues, protecting the body form diseases, supplying heat and energy, and also helping the elimination of waste products form the system.
Now! Protein, carbohydrates, fats, mineral, vitamin and water are the basic nutrient component and I will discuss on each of them.
sources of nutrients
proteins
Protein are essential constituents of plant and animal cells. In animal, the muscular tissue of the body is composed of protein. In plants the protein is enclosed in the cellulose. Therefore, there are two sources of protein which are animal proteins and vegetables protein
Animal protein is obtained form meat, fish, eggs, milk, poultry and cheese.
vegetable protein is obtained form pulse foods E.g beans and peas, nuts and unpolished cereals.
carbohydrates
This carbohydrates include starches, sugar, cellular and pectin. They are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. It constitute about two - third of the diet and are a relatively cheap source of energy. They are a nutrient that provides the body with energy and in some circumstances may be converted into fat and this occurs when a surplus quantity is eaten. Also, almost all carbohydrates are obtained from vegetable.
fats
fuel for energy is stored in some plants like oil seed as oil and in oil animal as fat. In plants and also in animals, fats are formed from carbohydrates. Fats therefore, are substance made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Which is also seen on carbohydrates. They provided the body with heat and energy. The also include all fatty materials such as meat, fat butter, and all dat and oil derives from both animal and vegetable.
minerals
minerals are essential for building the body and for the maintenance of health. For those reason, they may be regarded as nutrients. The chief minerals substance in food are sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and iodine.
vitamins
vitamin are chemical substance that are essential to life. They protect the body from diseases and they are needed to good health and proper nourishment. An illness known as deficient quantity of vitamins.
Vitamins are found in small amounts in many foods, but a sufficient quantity of them can be obtained if a variety of food is eaten daily.
water
Water is good for the body. Water makes up approximately two - thirds of the body's composition. It I present in every cell and tissue and is important in regulating body process.
Drinking water frequently contains some of the iron minerals needed b the body such as calcium, iron, iodine, and sodium. Water is very good and the body system.
