Best 20 Euros I have Spent In A Restaurant !

So, as you may know from my post yesterday, me and @ruth-girl (and @trumpman2!!!) went for a small escape in Pozar, Greece this weekend.

One of the things that got our attention in the room we were staying, was a brochure about a restaurant nearby called "Ελλήνων Γεύσεις"  which roughly translates to "Greek Flavors". So, this place had a 10 Euro per person offer which included:

• 1 appetizer
• 1 main meal
• 1 drink (beer or wine)
• 1 dessert

So, since we were two people, multiply the above by two, for a total price of 20 euros.

Now, for a restaurant in Greece, let alone in a touristic area, this is dirt cheap. You can expect to pay at least 10 euro just for the main meal and the beer. And the thing is that according to the brochure, we had a vast variety of options for the appetiser and main meal. We weren't "trapped" in just a few options...

Still, I never say no to cheap food so we went to the place, admittedly not expecting much... Personally, I expected the portions too be relatively small and the food quality below average... Oh, how wrong we were!

First, let me say a few words about the place. I didn't take any photos of the restaurant but on the looks department it scores quite well as you can see here. Also the stuff were very professional, polite and nicely dressed. Generally everything, including the super clean toilets, gives a somewhat expensive vibe. 

But what about the food? What can 20 euros get you?

Let's first with the appetisers. We decided to go for "τυροκαυτερη" (a type of Greek spicey cheese spread) and a Greek salad:

Although not clear in the photos, both portions were very generous. Tirokafteri is one of my favourite dishes, I always get myself one, and this one didn't disappoint me. I would give it a 9/10. As for the salad, I rarely eat greens so I can't have a good opinion. However, I did like this one and found the various veggies to be quite refreshing, so it probably was at least moderate...

Now to the main dish. I got myself a steak and @ruth-girl ordered μπιφτεκια, which I don't remember how they are called in English:

The fries weren't anything exceptional, 6/10 I would say. As for the rice, it was meh, 5/10. But I really enjoyed the steak. It was delicious, thick and moderate in size. I'd say at least a 8/10 when it comes to how it tasted. Same for the mpiftekia. Very nice, tasty and moderate in size, again a solid 8/10.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the drinks. We chose to have two Vergina beers, a cheap Greek beer that tastes way better than the other popular cheap beer options in Greece which include Heineken-piss, Amstel-piss and some other brand names. Now that I think of it, we should had tried out their wine, but oh well:

But what about the dessert? With all the goodies we had up to this point, I expected something simple and cheap, like some fruits or grapes or whatever. But no, they had to impress us again. We got a nice big waffle with chocolate covering and ice-cream plus a piece of chocolate cake:

I really enjoyed both of these treats, especially the chocolate cake which had a lot of choco and a very nice texture. I will give both a solid 9/10.

Overall, considering the money we paid, I give this experience a 15/10 andwould visit again. My guess is that this place is so cheap only during this time of the year where the area is still off-season as it is a winter destination.
