The Whole30 Diet

in #food7 years ago (edited)

So, I am trying a new diet that is supposed to "reset" your gut. It is not easy, and all I want to eat is gooey chocolate cake.

This was my first meal, a bed of spinach and two small steaks with eggs on top, fried in coconut oil.

This is my lunch today, a little fruit heavy, but oh well - Tomatoes, blueberries, banana, apple, coffee.

Things I can't eat-
Grains, not even oatmeal
Legumes, that means any kind of beans,
Dairy
Peanuts
Preservatives
Alcohol, I don't drink anyway
Sugar or sugar substitutes including honey, stevia, maple syrup, none...
Carrageenan, MSG, and Sulfites

Nor can I have anything that resembles the kind of food I crave, like trying to recreate pasta or pizza or, gooey chocolate cake- the diet refers to this as "SWYPO" or Sex With Your Pants On. The point is to eliminate the craving for the food one is used to grabbing up on the go, or to comfort and satisfy the absurd appetite that comes from the brain, not the gut.

What I miss most is the mouth feel of bread, cheesy bread, or slurpy noodles, melty chocolate and. . . . STOP!

I can't try to recreate these things. But at least I can still have black coffee!!!

Last night I tried shark steaks, they were disgusting, smelled like ammonia, and were impossible to chew. I did polish off an impressive amount of baby kale, arugula, mashed sweet potatoes, and bananas with almond butter for dessert.

After 30 days, I can begin to reintroduce things into my diet one by one to see how they affect my digestion and energy levels. I'm looking forward to that, but am really enjoying my calm gut today.

Love from the blooms of gut flora,
Tommy

That is very interesting, Thomas! I think I wanna try this too, but maybe for a week? Do you think I can do it for a week? Also I loved your photos!!!

I bet it would be good for any amount of time, but you are recommended to do it for 30 days to get the full reset. Good luck!

I don't know if I can do 30 days without hotdogs haha

You can make your own hotdogs, cant you. You just need a sausage grinder and casings. You can eat sausage as long as it isn't processed and full of preservatives or sugar.

Oh I didn't think about it! Thank you!!!

Please make a post about homemade hotdogs!!!! I love hotdogs as well, even more than hamburgers.

Try looking up ketogenic casseroles. There will be good cheesy\meaty recipes that you will like.

This diet is pretty similar to the ketogenic diet.

No cheese

Shit! I looked over dairy. You're just screwed. Haha

Best of luck man, you look insane in that photo. haha

I've definitely been there. Currently I'm still working on my "elimination diet" which I started in the beginning of February. You eliminate all possible allergens for 6 weeks and then re-introduce them one by one, and if your allergic to anything you have to wait another 2-6 weeks to heal before starting again. I literally feel for you. I recommend cauliflower... with a processor you can make it the consistency of rice, mix it with herbs and mush it together to make crackers and bread. I totally get the "SWYPO" thing but "cauliflower bread" doesn't get rid of the cravings. It just makes it so you don't go nuts from eating meat and plain vegetables all the time. Good luck!!

I'm full of understanding for you, if u check my blog u will see that I'm also in the topic of gym and health food haha good luck:)

Wow. Hope your gut lets you off the hook soon. Sounds like a particularly vicious reset! Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I've done Whole30 about 3 times. Pass a week's time, and you'll feel golden. Make sure you've got loads of snacks on hand. My favorite was plantain chips because Whole30 can definitely deprive you of crunch. Giving up eating loads of fruit was hard for me, but sweet potatoes were a saving grace. Good luck! One day at a time :)

Yeah, I'm not eating anymore fruit today. It is the crunch, the fluffy, and the melty that i miss so much.

Fruit, yay!
Sorry to bother you, but can you someone do me a favour any quickly reply to me. I gotta test something steemit related?
THANKS!

Thanks again. Haha. I know this is random, but it's for steemit >.<

My wife and I did Whole30 together a couple of months ago. I had just begun a work out plan and she discovered Whole30 at the same time. "We" only lasted a week (she really missed chocolate hahaha) but the meal plan was very similar to my meal plan for working out so I stayed pretty close to it. I honestly didn't find it that restrictive, other than being in dire need of cheese lol.

I really enjoyed it and began feeling the effects immediately. Good luck to you brother!

@Jamesc doesn't post much but I think he would be interested in this diet. We talked a lot wboit diet and things that you feed yourself in general.

Resteemed and upped this for ya! You're killing it.

that's so interesting
want to try it
