World vegan day is today! :)

in #food7 years ago

I just found this out haha! Didn't even know there is one :) Still, I'm a pescatarian (vegetarian, who eats fish & seafood), as fish is very important to my diet, I am too poor to get a lot of almonds and such nuts :D

I'll start with a story of when I was about 5-6 years old. There is a tradition in Orthodox Christianity that you have to get yourself a cock, kill it and eat it. The first time I realised that was happening was when I was at that age.

We went to some village with my dad and brother and we took a black cock and eventually we put him in the bathroom, since we didn't have a yard. I personally taught we took him as a pet and spent most of the day in the bathroom, just talking to him and trying to cuddle, although he was scared. Eventually my dad came in with a giant-ass knife and told me it's time. Basically, I went into a frenzy. Even now, when I'm writing this, I'm getting a bad feeling in my guts. And so I cried all day and didn't want to speak to anyone, since all my family was for killing the animal and eating it, and obviously, I didn't eat any of it, although they were forcing me.

Eventually, I had forgotten about that and started eating meat again, until I was about 16. I also had many illnesses and every time I was sick (which was 2-3 times a month), I had around 39-40C high temperature. At one point I decided that it's time to stop and I really felt great! But, my parents and many other people were CONSTANTLY telling me what an awful decision it is, because I'm still growing and I MUST eat meat. And they were forcing it on me badly, so I gave up and started again.

But eventually meat started tasting bad again and I started eating it rarely once more, and last December I decided that I've had enough and I won't support the meat industry anymore. Even 2-3 weeks after I stopped meat completely, my mum had cooked my favourite dish that had meat in it - pelmeni (It's a Russian dish - dough + minced meat). Even that tasted awfully bad to me and I had it as an awesome sign :)

Now I barely ever get sick.

And also, considering the fact that WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. Literally. The cells that we digest eventually break into constructive (or deconstructing) materials -> Proteins, Carbohydrates, Amino Acids and Lipids.

(^Sorry, I don't have a source for this 1, I've uploaded it ages ago ^)

Imagine what eating a stressed-out cell that has been fed antibiotics, has been most-likely abused, hasn't ever moved around, touched ground or seen the sun causes to our bodies compared to eating a sun-fed, happy fruit/veggie. It's got a MASSIVE impact on our physical being and mental being.

We can also get 'bad' energy from GMO plants that have grown without seeds and have lived on UV lights 24/7.

So, I try to eat as locally and home-grown as possible, taking food from the old people in the markets, whom I know are growing that food naturally. Of course, I still shop some junk food etc., I'm not rich enough or mentally strong enough. Which is sad, cos it really shouldn't be the way it is, the need of having money or you get to eat shit. But that's for another topic.

Now I'm boiling some home-grown potatoes and I'm gonna make an awesome salad, including onions and vinegar. Super simple and super delicious :)

I'm going to make a post with the pros and cons of not eating meat, I wanted to keep this 1 on a positive note.

Also, imagine a world where all farm animals can live freely :)
