A visit to Hong Kong necessitates the food lovers curiosity in trying out all the wonderful food that exists in this small yet diverse culinary heaven. One of the most famous and representative foods of Hong Kong is none other than the traditional Hong Kong Dim Sum. Today, I'm taking everyone to one of the most authentic places to eat Dim Sum, a place that will push your chopstick stamina to the limit! Dim Sum is a staple food offering to the local residents of Hong Kong, much like how in the west, people are accustomed to having Eggs, Bacon, Sausages and Beans for English breakfast. For this visit, I searched the web for the highest rated Dim Sum restaurant and found Tao Heung (稻香).

Workers are lining up outside various small eateries to get their breakfast before work starts. It's actually quite a busy time with lots of people waiting to get their morning fix of food before a long day at work.

Foreign labourers are an integral part to the culture of Hong Kong. On the weekend, these foreign labourers will gather together. Here are some gathered at Tong Lo Wan's Victoria Garden.

To new visitors of Hong Kong, taking the metro might be quite a daunting task but it needn't be.
Imgur
To travel on the metro, simply touch the station you'd like to go to, and pay the fee. You will be issued with a temporary metro card to cover for that journey.

These are the automatic / self service recharge booths.

Hong Kong's effort to curb environmental harm is helped by these differentiated bins located across the city.
Imgur
To save time, the escalators are noticably faster.
Imgur
We arrived at the station very quickly.
Imgur
The route maps are very succint and clear.

Here's a small secret, a lot of Dim Sum restaurants will have discounts after 2pm. So it is quite common to see quite a few people mostly elderly people waiting outside queuing, even if the restaurant has plenty of seating available.
Imgur
This restaurant like many others in Hong Kong is on the basement level.
Imgur
The restaurant area is very large.
Imgur
Just looking at the menu, i'm already very attracted to the food.

After making our order, it's a normal convention in Hong Kong (as well as many other Asian regions) to use hot water to scald the cutlery.

A nice elderly lady serves the first of our dishes.

I was really looking forward to the first dish, which is the Thousand Flakes Prawn. The sauce on top is a sweet and sour paste sauce. This together with the crispy outer layer and soft prawn meat on the inside make for a perfect compliment. This is a dish hard to find anywhere else.
Imgur
Fish balls with fresh boiled lettuce. This is cooked in a soup stock making the flavour really full.
Imgur
This is a dish i've also never seen anywhere else. On top, you have prawn, and on the bottom tofu. It tastes quite soft and has wonderful fresh fragrance. This one I found hard not to have a repeat serving.
Imgur
Fried fermented four treasures, this is made by putting fermented meat into the inside of a pepper and then fried. Finally some soy sauce added to taste. It's mouth wateringly good!
Imgur
Perhaps the most well known Dim Sum dish is also this restaurants speciality. The steamed prawn dumplings or (Har Gau). You can see the intricate folded wrinkles on the dumpling itself. It's a small detail, but shows the good culinary craft of the Hong Kong Dim Sum chefs here.
Imgur
Aside from being beautifully wrapped. The colour and lustre of the prawn meat inside the dumpling is very appealing too.
Imgur
It tastes every bit as good as it looks!
Imgur
Bamboo fungus with mushroom soup broth. This tastes a little bit sour and is perfect as an appetiser!
Imgur
Fish Egg Prawn Siu Mai. The meat is just delectable and very plump.
Imgur
Below we have the sweet desserts. First up is the Mango Pomelo Sago, the pomelo is a little sour but overall it's a sweet dish and very refreshing after eating quite a bit of fried foods.
Imgur
Even though I ordered a lot of Dim Sum, it just tastes so good that I managed to eat it all!
Imgur
Not only is the taste of the dim sum here superb, the restaurant always pays attention to the colour, lustre and appearance of it's dishes. The dim sum truly smells, looks and tastes great!
Imgur
Another distinguishing feature of this restaurant is the wide variety of sauces available to compliment the dim sum to your tastes.
Imgur
There are many sauces to choose from, simply help yourself with the small plates provided.
Imgur
There are also refillable drinks, beverages and even ice cream!

Most Cantonese restaurants will have an area dedicated to the God of Wealth. They believe that by paying respect to this god, their restaurant business will continue to flourish.

Thank you for following my very delicious Dim Sum journey, I hope that everyone will get the opportunity to try the amazing food Hong Kong has to offer. More delicious food to come!

You should have seen my face when I read "...a place that will push your chopstick stamina to the limit!" I bursted out laughing so hard. Thanks a bunch once again for this scrumptious and highly inspiring post. I am greatly unfamiliar with dim sum and would love to find a good one, maybe in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, or even Victoria, B.C. as well.

I have to admit that I was glad to see that you have such a good appetite. It often equates with one's appetite for life and, judging by the types of foods and one eats, the type of person she or he tends to be.

I was also left curious as to what kind of sauces you chose in relation to the dish you picked.

Namaste :)

Ahah, the good thing about Dim Sum is it's all very bite size. You end up having many many small pieces. I would look for some authentic Dim Sum restaurants in China town if you have one near where you live?

I actually like a bit of Chilli sauce and Chinese barbecue sauce. Sesame sauce is also really nice but with more meaty dishes.

Thanks for all the tips and, as I said, I'll check out Vancouver and Victoria Chinatowns, here in British Columbia, Canada, to find a decent dim sum. I'm still salivating just thinking about it. Namaste :)

look so tasty @sweetsssj........and a lot of creativity

I really love the flake fried prawns, for me that was the most creative one!

Yes , that the one that caught my eyes :-)

我到广州时也在稻香吃过。还不错。

不知道跟香港的有没有差别。。

你去广州再回来这里报道。;-)

I wish we had a good dim sum restaurant in Panama!

I bet there are some terrific Panamanian delicacies out there though! I will have to come visit some time!

In los angeles - dim sum is very big in china town.
My favorite place is CBS and Ocean seafood.
Golden dragon is also very good.

ha gow and shu mai (spelling) are my favorites. Prices are about 3 bucks for 4 pieces.

Very reasonably priced! You have to come to the motherland of Dim Sum and try it !

Yummy yummy, looks really tasty, enjoy yourself.

Thanks! It was really enjoyable; stomach pains but enjoyable!

I never cease to enjoy your posts, always amazing!

Thank you gringalicious !

Let's face it, there are many kitchens which even more culinary delights but when it comes to dim sum i always got a special place in my stomach reserved for it. Shrimp Dim Sum is the best.
