Discovering my culinary side

I'd like to preface this article by saying that I'm going to be steeming a lot more than I have before. Due to my schedule I haven't been able to steem much (if at all) in the last few months. Regardless, I'm back now and I'm ready to steem my heart out for the foreseeable future.

I've always been rather fond of food (It's what keeps me alive after all) however recently my love of food has gone beyond simply enjoying the taste of it. I've become infatuated with the art of making it. Initially it started with the basics of making simple sandwiches, and felling a sense of accomplishment with every portion of ramen noodles that was successfully cooked. However that quickly escalated into omelets, and eventually the jewel on my culinary crown, lasagna.

I haven't had any prior experience with making the Italian dish, but I figured that it couldn't be that difficult. And to my delight, my suspicions were confirmed when I found a relatively simple recipe online. The only task remaining was to actually cook it. So I did what any sensible man in my position would do, I called my girlfriend to aid me in my efforts.

Initially skeptical of my capabilities, she quickly changed her tune when we started with preparations. ''You look like Jamie Oliver.'' was one of the comments thrown my way. Although I'm not terribly clued up on the British chef, I viewed the comparison as a compliment. After all of the preparations had been finished, it was time to construct my very first lasagna. The layers of sauce and pasta went together nicely, and before I knew it, I was almost finished. The only thing that remained, was to pop it into the oven and wait for about 35 minutes. What we found however, was that the stove had a mind of it's own. Refusing to get hotter than 110 degrees (C), the 35 minutes soon dragged out into 90.

Despite this however, the lasagna was eventually finished. Upon removing the dish from the oven, the aroma of fresh Italian ecstasy flooded the kitchen. I have never been more excited to try food in my entire life. To my surprise, the taste was quite wonderful as well.

If there's one thing that this culinary adventure has taught me, it's that you shouldn't be afraid of trying new things. It might seem daunting at first, but you never know what wonderful experiences wait beyond the barrier of your comfort zone.
