Do you grope and sniff your produce?
Do you smell your fruit, vegetables? Do you squeeze and kneed? Real food people real food. How do you select your produce at the market?
I ask this because I'm one of those that snatch a cherry or grape or mint, anything that I can sample before I buy. That's right if I'm going to be insane enough to pay, what $6.99/lb for cherries they had best taste like cherries; in season mind you. Or grapes are 4.99/lb now. Garlic, garlic was 2 for a $1.00. Crazy. What's even crazier is what they want us to buy with out giving our produce a good grope and sniff.
I smelled nothing coming off the 3$ pineapple nothing and it was golden with some green. Not pushy at all so it wasn't juicey for sure. We picked up a musk melon, my daughter loves it. I doubt it will have flavor. We learned to hopefully get flavor by putting things in window for a few days to ripen further. Needless to say it doesn't always work. Ask me about organic. Please ask. Sometimes it's the same thing and twice, twice as much. Last week there was a sale on mushrooms and there was a lady making her selection. We started a small chat about how the baby bell was a good price. One set was organic like 25 cents more. She walked away before I could open my mouth....what was it produced with...organic manure? (I always ask myself this, every time and chuckle)
I know apples are about 1 year old by the time they are at the store. Seriously. And it tastes like nothing and sometimes feels nasty to chew.
The reason why I'm writing this is because I brought the kids today: I usually try to avoid if I can. I was asking them to get what they wanted but do the grope and sniff test. People were giving us smirky looks. Like wow, they got let into town or they are a little strange, type looks. So how do you select yours?
I used to grope my fruits, but I started getting a lot of complaints. Apparently I was talking dirty too loud and it was making the other shoppers uncomfortable...i dont know....

For real? I can see maybe bananas...or cucumbers for the real "size queens"...although I did have that long term relationship with a watermelon with a hole in it....sooo...yah I guess I can see that!
Lol. Not really for real but it was funny, like that's how they were looking at us. As I recall I don't see a lot of people doing the sniff test
I do the sniff test with canteloupe...You sniff the "butthole" (the very bottom of the melon)...and if it smells like canteloupe, then its ripe! This is the only sniff test I know of.
