October Art Series: Caramel Apples & A Vegan Recipe!
Vegan Caramel Apples:
- 1 c vegan butter substitute (Earth Balance is my preference)
- 2c sugar
- 2c milk substitute
- 1c light corn syrup
- 1t salt
- 1t vanilla
You'll also need 10 cookie or popsicle sticks and a candy/food thermometer
- Poke the sticks into the apples!
- In a large pot, add butter sub, sugar, milk sub, corn syrup and salt. When combined, turn up the heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Continue to boil and stir until temperature reaches 245 degrees F. When it's reached this heat, remove from stove and stir in vanilla. Allow caramel 1-2 minutes to cool.
- Dip each apple in caramel, coating all sides evenly.
- Optional: sprinkle with chopped nuts, sprinkles, oreos, or any additional candy of your choosing!
- Allow to cool and ENJOY!
