Eating in Melbourne: Birthday celebration at Trattoria il casolare

My birthday celebration with good friends, including @nextgen622 at Trattoria Il Casolare in Blackburn was great. “Il Casolare” is the Italian word for cottage and the restaurant was inviting indeed.

We got a 20 percent off deal and ordered 2 pizzas and 2 pastas plus a salad to share among 5 adults and 2 children. For dessert we shared a tiramisu. The service at the restaurant is friendly and attentive. The place is good for groups and it is fun to see the pizzas going into the big red woodfire oven. The prices are reasonable with the discount.

This pizza was called Parma and it came with 24 month old prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, rocket and tomatoes. They use a different type of flour for the pizza base which is supposed to be healthier. It was delicious.

Squid ink spaghetti with seafood
This was a bit too salty so I didn't eat much of it. The amount of seafood was generous though. I liked the mussel. There was calamari, clams and prawns as well.

Tagliatelle with lamb ragu
The texture of the al dente noodles was great. The lamb pieces were full of flavour and the sprinkle of cheese enhanced the dish even more.

Trento
This is new on the menu and I think it was my favorite dish of the night. It was great with the truffle cream sauce, Italian sausage, porcini and mixed mushrooms, asparagus, and parmesan cheese.

The one bite of tiramisu I had was tasty. A great evening with old friends! I am grateful for friendship!
