Simple recipes: Meat Lover's Puff Pastry Strips
Hello and welcome to another steemit post from Simple recipes, today I will be writing about a new simple recipe that you can share with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 big sheet of Puff pastry 20x20 inches or 2 sheets 10x10 inches
- One onion diced
- 4 tablespoons of pizza sauce or tomato sauce
- 1/3 cup of flour
- One red bell pepper diced
- One green bell pepper diced
- 3 tablespoons mashed garlic
- ½ cup of diced parsley
- ½ cup of shredded mixed cheddar
- One cup of cooked bacon, sausage, ham, turkey or any layover meat you have (beef, chicken)
- Olive oil
- Salt, pepper, paprika, Cajun, dried thyme, oregano and basil
- 1 teaspoon of each dried basil, oregano, thyme
- 2 egg whites and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Garnish
- black and white sesame seeds
Method
1. Preheat oven to 200.
2. Defrost the puff pastry in a cold area ( For best results keep in fridge overnight before using)
3. On a cooking pan, add olive oil when it is hot add onion, garlic stir for 3 minutes then add the other vegetables cook until they become tender. Add the diced cooked meat and stir for 3 to 4 minutes then add all the spices and continue stirring for 30 seconds then let it rest until cold.
4. Get a baking tray then align parchment paper on it and spray with non-stick oil spray.
5. Sprinkle the cutting board and rolling pin with flour. If you use one big sheet of puff pastry cut into equal half's. Roll the pastry sheets until you have a rectangular shape and acceptable thickness not too thick or thin.
6. Using the roll pin, roll the first sheet and place it on the baking tray then spread the tomato paste to cover all the pastry then add the vegetable and meat mix. Finish it off by sprinkling the cheese mix on top.
7. Cover using the second puff pastry sheet, use your fingers and press on the corners of the pastry to close it then bring a fork and do the same thing till its sealed.
8. Brush the egg whites and cinnamon on the top of the pastry. Sprinkle with both white and black sesame seeds.
9. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into equal strips.
10. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown, then apply desired garnish after its done. SERVE HOT!!!
Note:
For vegetarians omit the meat and add other vegetables as well as cheese.

wow, that looks great, now I'm hungry. :) Do you have any recommendation as far as cooking in a convection oven versus regular oven? I have both and the convection is new to me.
Thank you for liking my post. For the convection oven I would suggest monitoring the cooking time more precisely as the forced heat in convection ovens would cook the food faster than regular ovens. The forced air in convection ovens may deform soft items as well such as cakes, for best results check the manufacturer recommendations so you can adjust the suitable temperatures. For this recipe I used a convection oven.
